MSFS 2024 (Steam) doesnt start anymore

Hello guys,

yesterday I tested msfs24 with the new NVIDIA App + Driver + DLSS4 and flew with FENIX A320 without any problems. In fact, it run really well without stutters or low FPS (besides the approach).

Anyways. Today I started the sim and got the error: dxgi_error_device_hung (0x887a0006). I never had that before.

Since I had that error, I coudnt start msfs24 ever again. It starts with a black screen, the loading cycle on the button right and crashes after a few seconds.

Does anyone experience the same issue? I tried a few things but nothing works:

  • regedit with TdrLevel to do something about the error
  • DLSS swapper back to older version
  • resetting NVIDA app / clean reinstall
  • reinstall Nvidia driver
  • repair the game via Steam
  • joined the beta version via Steam
  • disable XMP profile
  • resetting my AMD undervolting settings
  • disabling the community folder

The last thing I did in msfs was scrolling through liveries when the error appears…

Try with disabled RTX Dynamic Vibrance in the NVIDIA app

Uninstall Nvidia driver using DDU in windows safe mode. After restarting your PC, install driver version 566.14. During the installation, make sure not to install the NVIDIA app.

Do you have DLSS Tweaks installed?

I already tried that, read this somewhere.

Yes, I used DLSS swapper and it worked perfectly. As the problems appeared out of nowhere today, I had the same thought and resettled the DLSS files.
But it makes no difference. The sim doesn’t start.

Nope, not thaaat clean :joy:. I’ll try it and report.

So im back - I did the mentioned, uninstall all NVIDIA stuff together with DDU. Clean instal of 566.14. without the app. But still, the game crashes as soon as I start it. Frustrating. Ive been so happy yesterday after everything run so smooth, and so frustrated today. Im done with this ■■■■. And I cant get my money back, its 2 month now.

Why don’t you simply reinstall the game? It only takes a few minutes. All progress and settings are saved in the steam cloud anyways.

I have the same exact issue deathshroud is describing, I just finished trying the uninstall and reinstall and still get a crash in the menu during loading. Worked perfectly yesterday. Losing my sh*t. Tried absolutely everything at this point. At a complete loss. Exhausted with this bull. Really hope some figures something out, just wanted to mention the reinstall of entire game after uninstall did not work.

I feel ur rage man, same

In one of the topics where I helped, someone mentioned that uninstalling the audio driver using the DDU helped him.

Thanks for your feedback on this thread!
As I used DDU for the GPU uninstall, I also choose to uninstall the Audio driver, but as you mentioned it, ill try to uninstall it separately.

You can also try Beta. If Beta is OK but you do not like it you can quit from Beta and reinstall the game.

I tried that too, right before I choose to uninstall the whole game I gave it a try. But the beta crashes also.

Guys! I just reinstalled nvidia driver after the reinstall of msfs and i am back working! I did the reinstall just using the nvida app. Still testing but wanted to get the word out asap in case it works for someone else.

You may also try

  • deleting the directx shader cache
  • deleting all streamed data in
    • \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Packages\StreamedPackages
    • \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\SceneryIndexes
  • rolling cache folder

Seems to me that the gpu is considered hanging somehow.
Maybe try adding these two DWORD entries in your registry to add some delay time.

If that does not help you can try to add the DWORD TdrLevel with value 0 at the same spot.

Of course you MUST reboot after adding these regedit entries.

Yeah it has to be something like that. Cuz the last thing I saw when the game run was the dxgi error. But I already added the TdrLevel and TdrDelay to my registry.
