Description of the issue:
I didn’t really mind the slow install times…after all, I said to myself, their servers are prolly getting hit with 10s of 1000s of people installing over a 24 h period.
And then I didn’t really mind the slow startup times at first, thinking that FS was just ‘cleaning up’, porting my stuff from 2020, etc.
But…now…

Startup times
MSFS 2020 on older system 2:30 (3 years)
MSFS 2024 on newer system 4:30
I wouldn’t miss the video that plays for several minutes at startup. Just pop a splash screen with some sort of progress indicator.
I guess I am not fond of the cloud. Another toy. Why do I have TBs of HD storage? And…downloading GB of stuff for every startup and every flight is not very green, is it?

It seems that I must click many menu items twice: once to ‘highlight’ them, and then another to actually do what I wanted.

I also figured there’d be some glitches, but I didn’t expect them to be this bad. These comments are from my first attempts to use the EFB, so my own learning curve might be partly responsible. Many of the comments stem from saving and loading PLNs, which I’d like to use in place of the FLT files I saved and edited in 2020. Not gonna happen immediately, I see.

The EFB has a European date format, and my computer is ISO. Not acceptable. At all.
While I was filling in the EFB, my hangar contents disappeared! Including the very plane I was flying!!! Restart got them back. Happened several times.
EFB is worse than 2020 FLT files. At least I can edit those and make my flights standard.
EFB didn’t seem to save my tail number or call sign.
The EFB didn’t consistently send my flight to avionics, or at least what it sent was not what I entered.
Right in the middle of creating a Free Flight, the UI changed! Now it’s different. Ah…I see that is because the Weather and Time reset to Live. That doesna happen in 2020.
Loading a PLN doesn’t remember the last place I saved to, so it’s play the tree game each time. I might have missed the ‘default PLN location’ in configuration.
EFB didn’t save the time for the saved PLN. Reset to LIVE time. This might have summat to do w the kind of flight I filed, but I don’t know the impact of those ‘kinds’ yet.
In EFB, I couldn’t tab to the next field. Tab closes the EFB. Whuh?
EFB didna save my XPDR or NAV/COM.
Weather and time keep reverting to LIVE.
At two points, the EFB stopped all of FS from working. Needed external close command.
After saving my PLN, which included setting the W&B, the plane I was using disappeared from my hangar!!! My only option was to ‘save and back’, saving a new plane as my default, then restart.
**restarting (5 minutes while I ordered pizza and beer), got my hangar back.
Despite my selecting R02 for takeoff, the EFB defaulted to R20 when it sent the data to ‘avionics’, so I wound up lined up to takeoff with the wind.
So if the EFB doesna save all this stuff, and I need to enter it anyway, why use it? And this begs the question, is FS 2024 useful? Not for me at this point. The slow startup and configuring each flight is too much time for me to spend waiting. YMMV, so no harm, no foul. I figure it will get there in a few months.
On the Free flight screen, there is some sort of VFR info that is partly off the screen.
I had planned to go on and set up NAV, but if the EFB doesna save NAV or XPDR, no point.
Seems odd to set the W&B in the plane, when IRL I think of it as part of my FB calcs.

EFB as a popout window on second monitor runs extremely slow if at all.

I second that. The EFB can be extremely laggy when in pop out mode and even reduces the games FPS.

•I’m experiencing issue with flight planning and weight and balance.

When planning a flight via the world map/EFB the plan will sometimes not transfer to the aircraft and when it does its not always correct. The EFB VFR departure and arrival pattern won’t transfer to the aircraft as Garmin etc will show no departures or arrivals for smaller airports/fields however, this isn’t a big issue. Some in game flight plans will only show half of the plan yet the EFB show all of it.

When importing a plan from the Web planner, you cannot start a flight because the fly now option is greyed out. When closing the EFB you can see via world map that the departure and arrivals boxes are not populated, I would have taught importing a plan would automatically populate these. Until these are completed the fly now option isn’t available. If I populate these boxes on the world map, then the uploaded plan in the EFB is removed and replaced with just the departure and arrival Airport.

I cannot calculate my takeoff performance via the EFB as the ICAO/RW drop down box does not work. When you click on the box a keyboard will appear and you can enter the airport ICAO, when you close the keyboard the airport name remains in the box but a drop-down does not appear in order to select the Specifics. When you reopen the keyboard you will then see the drop down box appear but it’s not accessible.

The weight and balance is also bugged. When a plan is created it automatically calculates the required fuel for the trip, which cannot be changed. I’m still using Simbrief for the fuel calculations and the EFB is always way off sometimes by hundreds of kilos. I have to overestimate my taxi and reserve fuel to bring it up to Simbrief level.

When selecting passengers or pilots, sometimes the pre entered weights are up to 170kg per person,this can be changed but in some cases the new entered weights do not change.

Most of the time when you try set your fuel/payload to the aircraft, I receive a failed to load message.

When creating a flight plan, the aircraft icon will not be placed at the departure airport but will be left centered in the middle of the world map.

100% Agree
When I move EFB to my second monitor, its Not useable, lags so far behind aircraft data.
24" Acer monitor 60hz refresh rate.
3840x2160.
Main Monitor Vizio 42" 60hz 3840x2160
FS 2024 running in 3840x2160
FYI in FS 2020 I pop out several maps and GPS and silky smooth. Same Res 3840x2160.

This is by design, and is how it works IRL as well. If, on your IRL EFB in Foreflight you select a VFR pattern for reference, that doesn’t transfer to your G1000, as it doesn’t know anything about those and those patterns are meant to be flown visually, not autopilot coupled.

In free-flight, you can update your sim plan into the world map from the EFB plan by hitting the File With ATC button on the bottom of the route page. Then you can proceed to start the flight.

Same issue here with EFB pop out window on second monitor.

Something to consider:

If you have a PC with an built in or internal videocard/output separate from your Main GPU use that output to the monitor you use for popouts or other related SIM apps. This frees up your Main GPU and can eliminate any reduction in performance for the Sim due to those popout windows and such.

Just a thought. I used to have an internal video output capable PC but forgot to make sure I got one with my new PC so kind of miss that ability.

My issue is that the EFB does not work well at all if I pop it out on an external monitor, it actualises every 10 or 15 seconds, I can’t move on the map or do anything, it is completely freezing.

• It only happens on external view with another window, works well on the main window of the game but it takes so much space that I can’t see 1/3 of the screen…

I have the same issues.
The latest patch made performance on a second monitor/tablet slight better but moment the mouse moves onto the second screen it is very slow.
Another issue is the window doesn’t stay within the confines of the screen when clicking maximise window.

The EFB is very broken. Many addons and third party software that rely on nav data, flight plans aren’t working. I wonder if this is why the Marketplace is still “coming soon” and the backwards compatibility is not as good as Microsoft usually manage.

A workaround for the window not fitting on the second screen correctly:

Alt Tab out of the game and open windows display options. Select the secondary screen you have the ill fitting window open on and move it a small amount then return to the desired position. Click apply and it will resize the window correctly.
