[MSFS] 2024Huge FPS drop when i'm looking somewhere

Hello,

I noticed that since today, I’ve been experiencing major FPS drops when looking at a specific spot… Normally, my game runs at 60 FPS without too much trouble… I want to clarify that I don’t think it’s a hardware issue since it happens every time I look at a certain spot, and this spot varies depending on the flight…

I reinstalled a fresh Windows today for other reason, but before that, I didn’t have this problem… And i tried on the 2020, no problem about this…

My config :

i5-14600kf, 9070 XT, 64 Go RAM, SSD 1 To

Videos about the problem :

It’s normal. Try turning the view with the A350 on the ground…

No, that’s not normal… As I said, I didn’t have this issue before, and besides that, my FPS only drop when I look at certain places. Why would my FPS drop when I look at the ground on the left, but not on the right?

Another example here: to the left of the plane, 60 FPS; to the right, 25 FPS, even though there’s no reason for such a performance drop…

And in this example, the area that was causing my FPS to drop was located under my plane… As a result, when I looked under the plane, I lost FPS, even from the cockpit.

Same problem here. When panning around and looking in certain directions I am noticing frame rate drops from 90 to 15-20 fps (in VR), which can not be easily explained by the level of detail/number or types of objects visible on screen.

I think there are dynamically generated points on the “map” where this behavior occurs. By “dynamically” I mean they are not always in the exact same place and/or their observation depends on the relative position of the observer. A small change in the observer’s position (or path previously traveled?) can cause the frame rate measured at the same location to differ by an order of magnitude.

I have noticed that most of such a places occur near airports (e.g. WSW sector of EPGD or EPSY area).

I have not tested every possible setting, but at first glance it seems that this behavior does not depend noticeably on the selected level of detail.

13600K, Z790, 64 GB RAM, 4080 (572.83 / v3.7.10 and v310.2.1), SSD NVMe. TAA. Dynamic settings for test purposes turned off.

I’ve noticed this a lot more recently, I was flying around the Washington DC area and if I look a certain way my frames drop as low as 20 when im constantly locked at 60.

7800x3D & 4090 too…

Just checking, but you are aware of the Fauna “issue”?
Turn off Fauna in the graphics settings (PC and VR) and I’m 99% sure you will see the problem go away.

Thank you for suggestion. I have heard about this but have not tried tinkering with the fauna settings. I thought I would try that today but it seems like the problem has magically disappeared. Same plane in the same places, settings set to minimum or maximum and no trace of the problem.

I am back to say that the problem resurfaced today. After landing at a random airport and walking around the plane, suddenly, looking approximately in a direction where I was flying prior to landing, the frame rate started dropping from 70-90 to 20-ish. I tried walking in that direction to find something specific that was causing this effect, but despite passing objects and leaving them behind, the frame rate kept dropping when looking that specific azimuth. I leaved VR mode to check on the built-in FPS meter if it was a CPU or GPU related issue, but changing modes seemed to fix the problem - when I switched back to VR, the frame rate drop was not there any more.

I get the same issue as here. Panning around, changing view impacts fps dramatically.
Also, i get around 132 FPS, at arrival airport it drops to 10-20 FPS with heavy stuttering.
Im on 2024 SU1
7800x3d, 5080, 64gb ram

I got the same. When Im looking through the windshield of 737 - I got full fps, but if I looks down (near rudder pedals) - ive got -20/30 fps.

So glad I saw your comment here. Installed a 5090 in my rig yesterday. Had no problems flying around a mountainous area of Norway yesterday. Go to fly around Sussex in England today and getting horrendous crackling sound and jarring stuttering. CPU maxing out at 100%. Having reloaded drivers, cleared caches, worried my new GPU had somehow disturbed the balance of ‘The Force’ in my system, I remembered your comment here and just turned Fauna off. Instant fix. CPU went from 100% to 56% in the same location. Thank you sir!

what there mean with Fauna? Only Animals?

Yes, animals. Not bushes… weird word for it huh?

I turn Fauna off but I still getting horrendous crackling sound and jarring stuttering :frowning:

Did you restart flight?

Also, if you fly over any (not even large) areas of photogrammetry forest that ALSO has autogen trees on top, it acts the same (or similar) to when we looked at invisible animals.

There is definitely an issue with SU2 Beta 1.4.10 though - I am getting CPU spikes all over the place now, even when all my CPU cores are breathing with tons of headroom. It’s borked IMO.

It WAS the fauna for me, it was killing the CPU even on low setting, I turned it off and the fps drop went away , back to 60 fps. I suspect one of the animals have a problem and when that one spawns somewhere it kills the performance. I say this because I seen plenty of horses where I fly from and those were fine and did not hurt the fps.
