MSFS is absolutely amazing during sunrise, daytime, and sunset. At night thought I feel the textures are lacking, like the lights. For some reason they look squared and quite blurry. Is there any mods that can increase the quality at night? I mean its not that big of a deal, but I feel that FSX had much better visuals at night.
All my settings are on Ultra, or the best they can be. Im also running the google maps mod.
Well at least for xbox users the marketplace is filled with mostly night scene enhancements. Given the cost you’d need a solid bank balance to populate a decent area with them.
IMO, MSFS nights look great in comparison with FSX. And there is real darkness, I’ve had flights when I couldn’t see anything at all through the aircraft windows, it was pitch black. In FSX, there were no real nights, it was always possible to make out clouds, terrain etc., taking away all the challenges of night flying.
It depends where you fly. In populated area, with “light polution”, there is no such thing as “Pitch dark” (unless you keep your Sun Glasses on, like all characters in MSFS !! )
day is oversaturated, clouds weak variable and bad resolution, so day is not perfect too, but for sure better than other simulator have, but other simulators some time looks more natural than msfs, but only some time lol
I’ve been flying all night tonight, and I was just thinking earlier about how blurry the lights looked…like maybe it thought I was still at FL430. The airports looked fine, it was the city lights that looked blurry. I do a lot of night flying, and I don’t remember them being this blurry. (It’s been a few weeks since I’ve flown at night, so there has been an update since then…)
Well the lighting is off. Lights are too many, too fuzzy, too bright and has a lot of room for improvement. Its like they just jammed a bunch of lights into the sim.
Runways and airports also look to have wall to wall light matrix’s
X-plane also had a nice PAPI Light mod that made them clearly visible at long distance or eyeball landings.
Added to which, it is against the Google Map TOC, and , if you incorrectly stop using that Google map MOD, without uninstalling it correctly, you will most defiantly hose ( “host” ? ) your MSFS.
I think the lights are square. Drawing a graphics square uses far fewer system resources than drawing a circle. I suspect this was done intentionally to enhance performance as a valid tradeoff.
Interesting. I didn’t realize using the map mod was so frowned upon. I just got this sim and looked up must have mods, and this one came up. I do think it looks a lot better then Bing.
I feel like after WU7 cities’ night lightning is way more intense than before. It seems to me like before the lights were less bright and more scattered around.
Found the night lighting to be a bit odd and don’t remember it looking like this. Up close it looks great but going out a little ways it’s just big splotches of yellow, with the transition between the two literally a straight line (look in upper left of picture).
Does it look like this with other people?
EDIT: looking closer I think it possibly looks weird because there’s heavy snow cover on the ground
