MSFS Crash Before Opening

Thanks, I checked, but only ones i have are:

127.0.0.1 localhost

127.0.0.1 localhost

edited to add i am using driver version 566.14.

9-9 DxDiag.txt (109.2 KB)

I had a look at your dxdiag and I can see that one of the possible causes of the CTDs was the NVIDIA driver. I also see that you’re currently on version 566.14, which normally doesn’t cause any issues.

However, if something went wrong during the uninstallation of the NVIDIA driver (for example, if not all files were properly removed), leftover files might still affect the game and cause CTDs.

Please check if you have more than 3 folders inside the models directory. To do this:

  1. Go to:
C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA\NGX\models\

Note: the ProgramData folder is hidden by default. The easiest way is to copy the full path above, paste it into the Windows search bar, and press Enter.
2. Once you’re inside the models folder, please take a screenshot showing all the files and folders in it, so we can see what’s there.

edited to add, i always do a clean install and restart computer.

It looks like something isn’t right in your models folder. There should be exactly 3 folders:

  • config
  • dlisp
  • dlss
    and file named nvngx_config.txt

Only these 3 folders and nvngx_config.txt should be in the models folder. Delete everything else that is in there.

Also, make sure that you have completely uninstalled NVIDIA app. This is important.

Problem solved. Deleting those extra folders fixed it. Booted up pretty quick. Thanks so much. I appreciate it!

Glad to hear that. Enjoy smooth flying in MSFS 2020 and fly safe.

Interesting
I took a look in my folder and I have the exact same files within my models folder as well. I however am having no issue with the sim loading or CTD. I also have the NVIDIA app installed and have MSFS 2020 optimized within the app. Currently running drivers 581.29 (RTX 5060ti OC)

I don’t understand your surprise, because you definitely have DX12 selected in MSFS 2020, and as we all know, there are no CTD during loading when DX12 is selected instead of DX11.

Not really a surprise, just you mentioned one should have only the aforementioned folders/file within models folder.

I’m repeating - you don’t get CTD during MSFS 2020 loading because you have DX12 selected in the settings, not DX11, so you shouldn’t be surprised that there’s no CTD. As for the folders, it depends on NVIDIA driver version. I won’t go into detailed explanation because a wall of text might just confuse things.

The CTD issue I was aware of. The file/s difference was not. But it doesn’t surprise me given NVIDIA lately has been sloppy with drivers.
