According to the community, this may be caused by the Nvidia App. The error is coming from the DLL 190_E658703.dll. See if this fixes your problem (temporarily since this DLL is coming back, but there is a second solution but you can test this one to see if this is your problem):

Win + R, this should open the run box, put this in the search bar: C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA\NGX\models

Then, go to the search bar in the upper right corner and search for or copy this name: 190_E658703

If it appears listed in the search, delete everything without exception (Shift + A then Shift + Del). See if that solves the problem.

Thank you! Worked perfectly!

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes, exact. for me it occurs around 47% of loading during the intro video, when it say “Loading World Data”.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• The intro video start to stutters more and more until it fully stop. Before crashing I can hear/see (through monitoring) the CPU usage going down. And then back to Steam without any message. Selecting “Safe Mode” or “Continue” do nothing different. No overclock, no Community folder, nothing which is not fully “Vanilla”. Cache file deleted just in case. I didn’t start the Sim for several weeks before yesterday. It was fully updated through Steam like usual. This problem started yesterday and continued today. It’s systematic and 100% reproductible. No fly for me (and OP).

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
• It’s not relevant.

EDIT: Just seeing a possible workaround is provided by @RVictorPilot, I’ll try.

The solution may solve it, but every time you restart the PC it returns the 190_E658703.dll files… I uninstalled the Nvidia App (not the driver) and it solved it. I hope that Microsoft together with Nvidia releases a fix for these 190…dlll files.

Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
Using the MS Store version of MSFS2020, Nvidia App latest drivers

Seeing the same thing here

I had both a MSFS2020 update waiting for me this week (assume it was the AIRAC) and a Nvidia app update, not sure which broke it as its been working fine for a while with the Nvidia app.

Guess I’ll wait for a fix.

Uninstall Nvidia app.

Nvidia app is needed for some features in other games like the new DLSS overrides, unfortunately.

Hopefully this gets patched soon, not clear if it would need an Nvidia update or a Sim update to fix it.

After following the advise of @RVictorPilot and deleted all those DLLs, uninstalled the nvidia app, the sim keeps crashing.

Here is my log file although doesnt look very revealing.

I have the same issue with MSFS 2024. However, the main difs that my error log has no mention of the fault module. Should I assume issue comes from somewhere else given my error log?

I have the same problem since three days.
After installing DLSS 4 and having both 2020 and 2024 installed, i mistakingly selected 2020 instead of 2024 to leave the beta version.

Subsequently, MSFS 2020 made a large reinstallation.
I made a back up of all my community items and everything is saved.

After installation and with all peripherals turned off, the sim 2020 started but halfway through it CTD.
Again and again.
I deinstalled MSFS2020 and reinstalled it fresh overnight.
But to no avail.
I tried the NVIDIA dll trick described here, but it did not help.
I removed the content.xml and followed other steps
any ideas?? pls. help.
by the way, MS2024 runs fine, more or less as always;-)

My rig:
WIN11, v 10.026100
NVIDIA driver 572.16
i7-13700KF
64GB RAM
HDD storage
RTX 4090

Im extremely pleased to announce that i finally got the sim to not only start, but run buttery smooth. the solution?

I uninstalled the sim and then manually deleted the usercfg file and the 250 gig rolling cashe file. I then installed the sim and boomba!

I did not uninstalled any NVIDIA drivers and left the Nvidia app intact.

congrats! - I am happy for you!!!
did you deinstall the SIM via the WIN apps install/deinstall feature?
where do I find the usercfg file and the rolling cash file?

Yes. I uninstalled via the remove programs in ctr panel.

I just searched my drive for usercfg and deleted it. Not sure where it was.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

MSFS2020 now crashes on launch every time, unbootable. This appears to be due to a conflict with the NVIDIA App, as referenced in other User Support threads, because the location of the faulting module is “190_E658703.dll” in C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA\NGX\models.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Why are these all moved to User Support? I just created a bug report for this but it was moved immediately.

Trying to understand how we can get this bug logged or submitted to the team

Also: The Nvidia App bug appears to only affect MSFS 2020. My 2024 works fine.

The 2024 crash reports in here seem to be a different CTD error. Both valid but maybe we should have seperate threads for each

Edit: I see other posts saying Nvidia has released an update that fixes the 2020 CTD/App issue. Will test it shortly - GeForce Hotfix Driver Version 572.24 | NVIDIA

I’ve just built a new PC and installed 2024 which has worked perfectly for the past week or so. I am on 572.16 with the DLSS 4 mod.
Today I installed 2020 for the first time and it would not launch. Crashed about half way.
I tried uninstalling the NVIDIA app and it still crashed.
I tried updating to 572.24 and it still crashed.
I removed the DLL 190_E658703.dll files and started no problem.
I understand though that these are zombie files and this is not permanent fix.
I don’t really understand what these files are and what creates them. Will uninstalling the NVIDIA app after they are deleted prevent them coming back.
And how can they say the topic is solved as it certainly isn’t as far as I’m concerned.

Hi @sellie6131, it was the user who created the topic who marked the topic as solved, because he probably took it from the state of not being able to load the simulator to something functional through a workaround. The problem is coming from the Nvidia App that is generating these 190.dll files and this has not been solved, until now. The temporary workaround solution is to delete these DLLs that are generated in the Nvidia ngx models folder, but they return with each reboot which forces you to have to uninstall the Nvidia App.

We may have to “bother” Nvidia to try to understand what this is. This must be causing problems for a lot of people and this is not very good for MSFS.

Thanks for the reply and explanation.
Yes I’ll have to do as you say delete the files and uninstall NVIDIA app.
Just another little thing we’ll have to live with.
Thanks again…
