Novice question for real world / sim pilots:- I want to fly from EGNH to EGNS, land, go to the allocated gate, switch off engine, eat ‘Butties’ re-fuel, then continue from that gate, on to say EGNL , land, go to the allocated gate, switch off engine , (No Butties left), re-fuel, then RETURN to EGNH, land, go to my allocated gate and switch off and finish. I may also just want to fly EGNH to EGNS and BACK again, (not touch and go).
My question is does the above require creating several flight plans (Returning to the world map each air flight) or in MSFS can ONE flight plan be set up for ROUND trips, if so HOW?
How are Round trips set up in real Life?
P.S. I have tried the middle two arrows button on the world map but still had to leave the simulation to get to it. It did reverse the Depart /Arrive airfields, but did not retain the original gates asked for! Any help / advice appreciated thanks.
A flight plan is from-to. If you visit several airports or even go back to the origin, it’s another flight plan.
I found after downloading multiple stop flight plans from enthusiast sites, the easiest way is to use an external planner like Little Nav Map, which let’s you add multiple airports as waypoints.
I then load the plan in LNM, delete all the other segments except the current From-To leg and export it as an MSFS PLN file. Fly the segment. Repeat for the next.
For continuity, I try to note which ramp spot I parked at at the last airport before closing LNM (I keep it open as an enhanced sectional and as a moving map), and then once the PLN is loaded in the sim, I use the drop-down to move the plane to that spot instead of the active.
I haven’t done this yet, so correct me if I’m wrong…
Using 3rd party flightvplan software, you can generate each journey.
When your first journey ends and the end screen appears, just hit Continue, call the fuel truck, have butties as required, then manually enter flight plan via aircraft systems.
I’ve not yet seen a way to do multiple journeys using the built in planner…
Thank you for that Lkowgli, seems obvious doesn’t it.
Thank you Loveclose, that’s seems to be one way, though I fly the Cessna 152 so I don’t think I can input flight plan via the aircraft?
It’s like that in the game and in real life. If you fly between several controlled airports (with full stop) you need to file several flight plans.
If you’re just doing touch and goes you can just add the airport as a waypoint (IRL with a remark (RMK/) saying “touch and go”.
Thanks Casualclick, This sound a suitable way. I have LNM but not used it yet. will give it a try.
If you are using the G1000 Cesna, you can input the flight plan direct into the navigation system, step by step.
Some 3rd party flight planning software allows you to save the flight plan and load it direct into the aircraft when in cockpit - I used to use Tim Arnot’s Plan G software to programme flight plans into XPlane 11 - the plan is exported to a folder which can be seen by the aircraft navigation device enabling the file to be loaded in cockpit.
Haven’t used Plan G for MFS2020 as I don’t know if the programme has been updated to allow migration of flight plans into MFS2020 yet.
Manually scrolling in a flight plan is a little time consuming but quite possible!
