Hi there. I cannot find an answer to the following.
Msfs 2020 is installed on pc via the Xbox app.
The ONLY way to launch msfs is from within the Xbox app. A shortcut on the taskbar or even from the windows start page is not working.
Once msfs has been running I can use the taskbar shortcut normally.
The question is: is this normal behaviour if msfs is installed in the Xbox app? In that case you can only launch msfs in the Xbox app?
Or is it a setting?

If you call up the Xbox app on your PC, and log into the app, will the sim start then from the start menu?
Nope. It only start in the Xbox app even if I am login in the Xbox app and keep the Xbox app active, nothing happens when I click it in windows start screen.
Only after msfs has run and I want to launch again without shut off or restart the pc it will start from the start menu.
Have you ever reinstalled or changed the location of msfs.?
No, this is the first install on a brand new computer Windows 11. Msfs was installed on my previous computer and I reinstalled on my new computer. Could that be a signal for a clue?
The problem is relatively small. It does launch from the Xbox app. But I try to understand why that is the ONLY way to launch msfs. Before it is becoming a potential bigger problem.
As I understand now, this is not standard? Not the normal situation when installed via the Xbox app?
Did you update the app in Microsoft Store /Library?
Maybe it’s a Windows 11 thing. I’m on Windows 10 and I haven’t even got the Xbox app.

… is to update the front end client. You don’t need to own a physical Xbox…the application you registered when purchasing MSFS has the same name.
I have the exact same problem. I can add this: I upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 a couple of days ago. I see the problem on Windows 11. I did not see it on Windows 10. I have pinned the simulator to the task bar and is using the resulting task bar icon. So, it seems to be a Windows 11 bug (23H2 for me).
Same Issue here, I got it after switching my motherboard
I can confirm this, updated to Win 11 ysterday and 2020 now only starts via Xbox App.
