MSFS Pop Out Panel Manager (with Touch Panel Support)

Thank you for the app. I use a tablet with Spacedesk for the touch screen functionality and a second monitor. Lately I found that the mouse panning/movement is extremely sluggish once the panels are popped out. I have looked at various obvious things to track it down - without success. I do use a wireless mouse though. Any idea what the problem could be ?. Thanks. @RoastGnu

Try increasing the ā€œTouch Down Touch Up Delayā€ setting from previous post to 25 to account for the Spacedesk latency. If it doesn’t fix your issue, please try downloading and installing the latest Spacedesk driver from Spacedesk.net. In any case, your wireless mouse should not be causing the issue since touch emulation does not actually use your physical mouse. Also, please let me know if you can replicate the slow panning and mouse movement when using just your mouse without POPM. If not, then it could be a compatibility issue on POPM and your aircraft and I’ve to do some investigation. But, if you also get sluggish performance when using your mouse with Spacedesk, then most likely it is a Spacedesk issue or MSFS game issue.

This has been my observation. And I don’t think there’s a whole lot that can be done about it. When frame rates are fluid, touch works great and is quite responsive outside of the small latency from the touch to mouse translation. If the sim’s frame rate is erratic or low, then touch will be erratic as well.

Thanks for your reply.
I have the latest Spacedesk Driver V 1.0.50
When POPM does not run there are no issues. I can move mouse pointer without issues between both monitors and the tablet.
I have changed some of the settings you have suggested - no improvement.
If I have , say a PFD and MFD popped out on my first or second monitors - no issues.
The moment I move them to the tablet the mouse pointer movement becomes erratic on all displays.

Don’t have a problem with touch instruments eg. Garmin GTC on the tablet. No latency there.

It is just a problem when I want to move the pointer onto second monitor to open something else like Navigraph etc.

I seem to remember that when I first installed - did not notice a problem.
Maybe NVidia driver updates I did between then and now ?. This a wild guess.
Late evening here, will do some driver rollback tomorrow and see.

With regard game performance- I run a Intel I7 - 9700 with NVidia 3080 - 32 GB Memory – FPS is not an issue - runs 90 to 100 fps with ease.

Thanks again and regards.

With your system specs, game performance should not be issue. The only thing I can think is as you drag pop out panels around, POPM uses system hooks to calculate screen coordinates so they can be saved and restored later. Maybe the hook or calculation routine is overloading your system but it doesn’t seemed to make sense because it happens only on your Spacedesk tablet and not your monitors. So I’m guessing it could be drivers conflict and unfortunately I’ve an AMD GPU and am not able to reproduce your issue.

On my PC, I’ve noticed just today that if I’m running the game in DX11 in Windows mode or Full Screen mode with any number of pop out window open, on top of the usual pop out FPS penalty, I’m getting massive FPS hit when I want to operate other desktop Windows such as working on LitteNavMap or just opening Start Menu (using windows key). My FPS dipped from 32 FPS (with pop outs) to 25 FPS. As soon as I click the game window and set focus to the game again, my FPS restores immediately. I never really notice this before. If no pop out window was open, FPS dips momentarily but restore maybe a quarter second later.

I’ve to do more testing. It could be my AMD GPU driver or a new game bug?

Guess what ? Your mention of DX11 reminded me that I am running MSFS 2020 with DX12 [Beta] = ON.
Went back to DX11 and low and behold - the mouse lagging issue is gone. The only ā€œdraw backā€ is that on DX11 the popping out of panels hits he FPS. Anyway, I have enough headroom in the FPS ā€œdepartmentā€ to absorb that. Thanks for all your replies and also making available this excellent application.

Regards

I was actually just going to say that. I had the same issue. It’s DX12 that’s still a dumpster fire. It’s not your system, SpaceDesk or POPM. As soon as you take focus away from the sim, all kinds of strange stuff starts happening.

Anyone figure out how to get the Longitude to work properly? I can never get all of the panels to pop out. I have tried different vantages and panel order, but I can never get all of them to pop out. To the developer: This is such awesome work! Thanks! Donation sent. I also have a video up with a tutorial. I hope I do this app justice! IvanSky

You just have to set your view to the programmed view button you choose in the preferences such that you can see every display you want to popout in one view. I’ve got 4 popped out for the Longitude using POPM.

Thanks for the response. I can get four, but I can’t get all eight. I have tried multiple views (all ā€œseeā€ all of the panels) and multiple panel orders.

Eight. Why you need that many? The co pilot side ones are duplicated anyhow. The only extra you might want that I don’t need is the ESI because I made one in Air Manager.

You don’t need 8 popouts for the Longitude. The pilot side PFD and the MFD are must-haves, of course. The copilot side PFD is a mirror of the pilot side. I’m not even 100% sure it can be popped out.

When it comes to the GTC570, you really need 2 for sure - the left hand pilot side and one of the centre ones. The 2 centre console ones are mirrors of each other, assuming you’re you’re on the current public build of the sim though. I’m not even sure if they can both be popped out since they’re mirrors.

If you’re using the AAU I beta, the 2 centre console ones are independent of each other. The pilot and copilot side ones are mirrored. So having the 2 console ones popped out may be beneficial. In any case, AAU I will be rolling out as the public build in a couple of weeks, so that will change how you may use this plane.

But much like your setup for the Vision Jet, you can get away with just 2 of them - just like what @Sling380 has in his layout. At most you would need 5 - PFD, MFD, ESI, and a pair of 570s.

Hello, an amazing tool you have made here. Unfortuantely I seem to be running into an issue i havent seen talked about anywhere. When i click Start Panel Selection, the app doesnt register any of my clicks inside the simulator, only one in my taskbar and in my browser. I am also confused if i only need the .exe installed or if i need the entire source code. Thanks

Please try to run POPM as adminstrator and see if you can click the instrumentation panels. This issue has been reported by other users before but unfortunately I am still not able to figure out what is blocking mouse clicks on certain computers. Hope this fixes your issue an dplease report back if you still have issue.

Hey, I fixed it. Just moving my view so i could see all the screens in the cockpit and it worked. But i cant get touch to work on my iPad. Using Wired XDisplay and enabling the touch option in the app. Not sure whats happening, connected via USB

hello is it possible to add another screen to an existing profile without setting up the whole profile again?

I can’t find this in the download, or the github page, or on flightsim.to, or when I searched for ā€œmobiflightā€ in this thread. Can anyone tell me what the folder ā€œmobiflight-event-moduleā€ does?
I use Mobiflight for custom made buttons etc. so I’m curious to known what feature it adds.

First of all, I love your wonderful tool Stan!

I’ve been using it for quite some time in my ongoing homecockpit A320 project. Everything works fine execpt one thing. I have a windows surface book hooked up via spacedesk, which I’m currently using as efb. But I just can’t get the touch to work with the flybywire efb when popped out to the surface via spacedesk. I have touch enabled for this popout window, but on the surface the touch only activates the spacedesk items, but doesn’t work in the popout window itself? What am I missing or doning wrong here? Thx in advance for any help regarding this issue!

My primary system (flightsim pc) runs on win11 in case that’s of any importance.

Too bad the efb is not listed in the accessible panels via the web based touch panel manager from you. There’s just the mcdu and the displays.

Hi WokkeIP,

Sorry, you don’t actually have to put ā€œmobiflight-event-moduleā€ into your community folder. This module is used for future version of POPM. In the meantime, you can use your version of mobiflight plugin and POPM does not require the use of this particular plugin. I’ve updated the zip package to exclude the mobiflight plugin.
