Hi have been flight simmer for years since the 90s now got msfs 2020and very disappointed with scenery only average 10mbps on internet but not good enough as it won’t stay on bing photos keeps knocking me off any ideas please
this is your biggest problem.
once its up and running it only uses about 2-3 Mbps. Make sure you have rolling cache configured and switch photogrammetry off. It should work well when not at busy airports / cities.
With. 10 mbps connection you will be limited. I’d also switch off the live AI traffic.
Remember the first time you fly over an area it will be cached in the rolling cache. After that, if you fly in the same area the images will be loaded from the cache and not the internet.
The sim is great. I have been spending hours in disbelief over the breathtaking graphics. I also have been simming since 1998 and I can honestly say, that I never thought we’d get where we are.
Take your time to get back into the scene. Something is definitely wrong, if you are disappointed.
By the way: Check the screenshot threads. Then you know, what I mean!!
Thanks for info guys
I never switch Photogrammetry OFF… If set to off, the graphics will remind you of basic FSX…
and you will need good internet speed… I do not use any caching… Scenery is Breathtaking under those basic conditions when compared to FSX. View it in a Photogrammetry city to see what we mean.

Thanks for reply what internet speed do you recommend cheers
Same here. I started with flight sims when the plane was just a dot and the scenery was a wireframe chessboard with a dotted rectangle representing the runway, so to now see the whole world in stunning 3D in VR is an incredible improvement. I have a 100Mbps connection, so I leave rolling cache off and photogrammetry on. Flying over Rome or Venice in VR (especially in a floatplane there) is breathtaking. Landing the Beaver floatplane on the grand canal for the first time was jaw dropping.
I live rural and only get 30-40mbit and never have a problem with scenery streaming. In theory it should be ok on 10mbps but only if you aren’t sharing that with others.
Orbx was jaw dropping when they released their FSX sceneries. Tbh, most sims seemed jaw dropping at the time. Then familiarity sets in… Now I can’t help but feel like I’m flying over City Skylines lol. It looks very similar. It does look great though. Can’t lie.
What are your computer specs? CPU, RAM, GPU, etc.?
Microsoft Flight Simulator Recommended System Requirements
- OS: Windows 10
- CPU:**** Ryzen 5 1500X / Intel i5-8400
- GPU:**** Radeon RX 590 / NVIDIA GTX 970
- VRAM:**** 4 GB
- RAM:**** 16 GB
- HDD:**** 150 GB
- Bandwidth:**** 20 Mbps
These are the recommended specs for Microsoft Flight Simulator. If you want to have a smooth experience with the game, you’ll want to make sure you meet these requirements.
Cheers you good flight simmers for all your help l. won’t give up till lm satisfied l have done everything in my body/to get better scenery ,but the main thing is me probably having to increase my internet. happy flying to u all this Christmas
Where do you live? In the States you often only have access to DSL or Cable for internet connections and DSL is terrible if you’re at the end of the line (especially in urban areas). Cable is usually a better choice, except they always want you to bundle it with your TV package which does not help. If you can get Fiber that’s best. I am lucky- I live in Ecuador and everything here is Fiber and because I’m old I get a big discount on a 150 Mbps connection that often actually runs at over 200 Mbps! So I really don’t need Rolling cache and photogrammetry works great. 10 Mbps is pretty low so I would try for at least 50.
…and don‘t forget VR!!!
For me, flying MSFS in VR is a dream come true - one I dreamt since SubLogic times…
I never use photogrammetry and my game looks just fine. I think when you mentioned it will look like “basic FSX” you mean if the game goes offline. If thats the case then yes it does look like FSX.
Are you on wireless by chance?
@Planecrazy2973 A very warm welcome to the forums.
I hope some of the advice, so far, in this thread has been helpful.
Small mod note- I updated the thread title to more accurately identify this thread is about scenery streaming issues. I also moved the thread to #community-support:tech-support and removed the 30 day autoclose timer from the thread.
Actually, what I meant was, when PG is turned OFF, the buildings are AI Generated (Not Real).
As noted in the attached photos, The top one is with PG ON and I see the actual buildings that exist when I depart Pensacola International AP to the west. I can fly right over the Sacred Heat Hospital and see the Hospital signs as the actually are today.
If you notice the second photo. That is AI generated. Most of the buildings do not exist as depicted. It looks good but it is not real. It is computer generated buildings. Now this is the result of PG ON or OFF in a Photogrammetry city. Other areas that were never accorded photogrammetry design may not be as easy to tell the difference.
…
If I fly over my home to the west of Pensacola and slightly out of the photogrammetry generated area, it is obvious to me that it is not nearly as accurate and the buildings are computer generated, unlike an area the has been declared as a photogrammetry area in MSFS.
