MSFS Update getting stuck decompressing

Hi.

I’m having an issue with the latest update where it seems to get stuck at the decompressing stage.

I’ve tried repairing the install via Windows 11 settings and also resetting the data via Windows 11 settings too.

I’ve also tried setting my RAM memory settings to the default setting, as they were on XMP.

Any help would be much appreciatied.

Kind regards

One solution that often works is to note the file the sim is hung up on, shut the sim down, find and delete the file noted.
Restart the sim.

Hi @MulberryCash08 ,
You might also want to search the forums with:
decompress in:title status:solved

and see if any of the solutions in the returned posts work for you.

If not, can you post a screenshot taken at the point the install gets stuck? Please make sure the screenshot includes the progress bar at the bottom. Thanks!

Hi.

I’ve tried several of these things now and nothing seems to work. I’ve tried deleting the offending file but then it will just get stuck on another. I’ve updated my MOBO bios, but still nothing. I’ve tried doing the things suggested in another thread like updating the Xbox app and running a repair tool in that but still nothing.

It’s very frustrating as MSFS was working fine up until the update and there’s no way that I can find to bypass the update or just ignore it and revert to the previous one.

I’m trying to avoid a fresh install of MSFS as that is very time consuming and I get limited time as it is.

Is there any other avenues I could try or direct support from MS?

Kind regards

I tried this, but it just gets hung on another file next time I load the sim.

Thanks any way.

The main reason you can’t revert is that the server only contains the latest version, and your PC must have the same one as the server.

I have seen several cases where the user had to continue the delete process until the update installed.

You can contact official MSFS Support through the Support tab at the top of the page.
In there, click “Submit a Request”.

Good Luck!

Thanks for this, I will try deleting them each time they cause an issue. Just out of curiosity, what happens to the file once I delete it, does it just not get installed after that, or does it get re-downloaded/re-installed?
Thanks again for all the assistance so far.

As you thought, it gets re-downloaded/installed.
In most cases, that makes it easier if you are having a problem with a certain aircraft, etc.
No problem with the help!

Hi.

Just thought I’d update people on this in case anybody else has a similar issue.

I’d tried deleting each file as it got stuck decompressing but it was taking a very long time. I’d spent about 5 hours of an evening starting MSFS then waiting for the update to resume, write down the file name that was getting stuck and then closing MSFS and then locating the file and deleting it and starting the whole process again.

In the end I just done a fresh re-install of MSFS2020 and everything seems to be working OK now.

Thanks for the assistance everyone.
