Do I need to open MSFS every day? If it has been a week or more, it takes hours to download required updates!
You should only have to download updates when their mandatory. They don’t issue them every week so I wonder what you’re downloading at every start up. If a mandatory update was issued during the time you’re off line, then it will have to download when you start. Conversely, if no mandatory downloads were issued during your absence, there should be no required download.
Thanks for the info. I’ll see what I can find on it. Maybe I have a wrong setting that’s dumping files
FWIW. I see you’re on Xbox, I’m on a PC but here’s the way the latest updates worked for me.
- MSFS starts; informs me there’s a mandatory update. Click on update and it does it loads the mandatory items. This does not download or the new world updates; only gets the sim ready.
- Go to the marketplace and see what’s there in scenery or aircraft that’s free. Click on it and download and install.
- Go to the content manager and see what’s there that needs an update. Download and save.
If you’ve missed saving anything MSFS considers essential, MSFS will download the missing items every time you start it. So far I haven’t filled my hard drive so I download everything that’s available even though I may not fly in that area.
I noticed that you have two Windows user profiles and MSFS is installed on each of them.
So, if you have the full version of MSFS installed on profile “A” and an outdated version on profile “B” the outdated version will take a long time to update.
In this case, you are updating MSFS twice because you haven’t moved game “packages” to a shared folder for example drive D folder named MSFS.
You need to select one user profile to be the main profile for MSFS and its future updates or move MSFS “packages” to a different drive, partition or folder.
