So i use openxr toolkit with the Reverb G2, i still experience some slight stutters or ground jitter i guess (ghosting) once in awhile but things have greatly improved using some of the features of the toolkit… about 85% Render in the tookit and 100% in the sim now.
I do run with motion reprojection on 24/7 as well.
I have an i9-10900k at 4.9ghz with 3080 ftw 10gb card.
I had an order for the varjo aero that was bout to ship, however i was looking for some solid commentary on whether i will visually see a great difference without getting more stutters, all things held equal? Since the aero doesnt support MR, im wondering if its going to be full of stutter and ghosting closer to the ground?
You will probably notice blur when moving your head in the aero (they are working on a fix (I hope)) and a small st-st-stutter between frames when looking sideways close to the ground or at other aircraft close up in the Aero… much the same as in the G2 without MR. Varjo are working (so I am told by the hype engineers on youtube) on a version of Motion Reprojection, but I have seen no official word to that effect.
I use my Aero daily over the G2 and I’m a big MR fan, but the clarity is far superior for me so I put up with the temporary (I hope) lack of making it perfect.
Ah thanks ok, well even with MR on with the G2 i get some hiccups looking out the sides, so the blur is kinda like with MR off with the G2 i assume too?
I saw one person with the aero said it was hands down worse than the G2 and had to lower graphics alot, while others seem ok with it.
Yeah i heard the MR was on the way, but who knows when i suppose.
I like a fluid view in the goggles, so the motion feels smooth, if its clear but not fluid then thats a no go for me, are you saying its mostly fluid and clear or just clear but not fluid?
Its a gamble either way, and from what i’ve heard a paint to return if unsatisfied.
Apparently the Aero actually gets better performance than the G2, even at higher clarity, since it doesn’t need to compensate for barrel distortion (which requires rendering at a higher res than it actually ends up being displayed at).
This is due to the aspheric (vs G2’s fresnel) lenses.
I run 100% render scale with no nis/fsr upscaling with the aero, looks superb, noticeably sharper than a G2, which i used to have to turn down the res slightly. I get a few stutters but it doesn’t wreck my experience.
I setup my G2 a few days ago, after returning the Oculus Quest 2.
After weeks of research starting with the Oculus, up until now with the G2, I think I found a solution that works for me.
Disable the sound on the G2. Actually I removed the ear pieces and use my own headphones. Disables the Windows + y overlay screen that pops up when you switch to vr. If you don’t know how to disable, let me know. The last setting I changed was, within the steam vr settings > video I switched the global resolution to 130% and worked my way up from there. I’m able to get up to 146% before rendering inside the cabin starts jittering.
My bootup process:
Make sure the G2 software is running.
Make sure OpenXR is running.
Make sure steamvr has been closed.
Launch FlightSim in Steam
Load my flight plan and once in game I switch to VR.
There are a few rumours of one or two new headsets being announced by Meta in 9 hours from now. People are talking about a new Quest and also Meta’s new medium-high-end headset code-named “Project Cambria”. Probably won’t be immediately available though.
For me that is more like around 28 hours from now. I highly doubt a new Quest will be talked about yet. Project Cambria - yes I anticipate they may even announce pricing along with ship/order dates.
Press the Windows key + I key to get into the Windows settings. From there select Mixed Reality > Startup and Desktop, and de-select "Start Mixed Reality portal when my headset’s presence sensor detects that I’m wearing it. On the same screen under “Input Switching” click the drop-down and select Manually switch using Windows logo key + Y.
Basically, as I mentioned last night in my boot-up steps, load your game, create your flight plan and load into the game. Once you are in the game, press the start button (if on a controller) or esc key (on keyboard) and go to general options I think > select VR (which is the last category in the section) and select switch to VR.
One other setting I changed, but I do not know if this made much of a difference, but under the Mixed Reality section > Headset Display, under “Adjust level of detail and quality of effects in the mixed reality home” in the drop down I change it from high to low.
