@Ramasurinen any word on when your updated version will make its way into the sim? Perhaps the beta?
@NixonRedgrave I wish I could say!
Itās in testing, and testing in this case is pretty much from scratch given how many changes and fixes I made, plus the new items I added. Very few bugs have been found though, and those that were have already been fixed and resubmitted.
The rest is out of my hands. I donāt have any say at all in the release schedule for updates. Hopefully soon!
Cool, thanks for the reply. I was really hoping weād see updates in the beta, at the very least.
Patience is certainly the word of the moment with 2024.
@NixonRedgrave My guess is that plane updates probably wonāt be released until the marketplace is up and running and fully stable with SU1, except for ones with severe blocking bugs.
Wow, thank you so much for this excellent and thorough answer ! I am not very good with SPAD when it comes to anything outside B: Events but given all this data, I will definitely give it a try to make it work.
Thanks again !
I must admit, I donāt find the complexity of SPAD/AAO much better to use than the terrible interface in FS24.
I noticed a couple of items while exploring the HU-16.
In external view at night, the glass is totally transparent:
One would expect to see some sort of reflection from my avatars flashlight.
In the Aircraft Selection screen the aircraft is listed as HU-16E:
In the aircraft the manufacturers plate shows HU16B:
I assume the aircraft is an āEā variant as that is what the manual shows.
(Note 1: The serial numbers for Livery 1 & Navy are the same too - I expect that they would be different in real-life)
(Note 2: My avatar had to crawl about on his hands & knees to find this incredibly minor & unimportant anomaly )
On a more serious note, the night lighting is pretty impressive:
I love flying these two aircraft & really appreciate the level of detail put into the interior & exterior graphics
@SmotheryVase665 Thanks for the kinds words and detailed feedback!
Good catch on the placards. I thought I had fixed those long ago, must have missed it. Iāll make a note to revisit those for a future update.
The glass bubble / flashlight issue is a global windshield material rendering problem unfortunately, it just stands out more on the Albatrossā nose due to its unique shape. The sun is the only light source that currently renders properly against the windshield and glass materials. If you look closely at any plane in aircraft configuration screen youāll see the glass is barely visible, if at all, under that sceneās āartificialā lights. There are no specular highlights at all.
Cheers!
Ram, is the trim fixed in the version you sent to AS? it certainly runs out of throw above 170. i seem to remember you mentioning it somewhere. this is the bird i will be taking around the world when those updates drop. this aircraft is an absolute vibe. you nailed it. thank you.
@TheShavenWookie Thanks! That sounds like a ton of fun. Done that trip in multiplayer a couple times myself, once in Spitfires (took quite a long time), and the other in SR-71s (took quite a bit less time, hehe).
Yes the trim is fully fixed in the coming update. I wouldnāt personally recommend trying to go everywhere at METO power and 200 knots, as itāll cut your range in half, but youāll be able to.
Hello, I tried this plane for the first time today. The G111 variant, I am not at all familiar with it however it instantly became my sonās favourite aeroplane, by far. He is nearly 6. We spent the rest of the day building a Lego flying boat which he then played with in the bath. Amazing memories, thank you
I have noticed two things though, apologies if they have come up before.
ATC (and my co-pilot) refer to me as a Diamond DA-62 when I fly this plane (G111 variant).
The right rear hatch is very difficult to close once open and the left rear door appears to be impossible to close once open because I canāt reach the click spot. It is against the bulkhead once the door is open I guess? Iām on Xbox and using a mouse if that makes a difference.
I love the sound of this aeroplane and it reminds me of the PBY Catalina that regularly flies not far from me (Duxford EGSU), and of a flying boat that I saw (and can still remember the smell of) when I was probably 5 years old (I donāt remember what model it was).
Flying boats are the best boats, and the best planes too!
@weirdNumber Thank you very much for the kind words, and for sharing your sonās approval of the Albatross! My oldest boy is 4 and he likes it too. He thinks all I do all day is fly toy planes though, hehe. I wish!
The ATC misidentification is fixed (along with many other fixes and improvements) in the coming update, which I think will be released alongside Sim Update 1, so fairly soon now.
You are right about some of the hatch clickspots, theyāre a little fiddly to find when the hatches are open, unless you know exactly where to point. I will add that to the list for a future small update.
You can see some of the coming improvements in the more active Albatross thread here:
Thanks again, and happy flying!
-Mike
Thank you very much for your dedication and perseverance when it comes to fixing - and adding features - to the Albatross. The release is a long and joyful read.
Iām not seeing the new variants or the new livery. Anyone else? MS Store version and I was in the beta.
You deserve a round of applause, and a stiff drink, for coming out with the longest list of fixes in the patch notes. Single-handedly giving me hope for FS24ās future.
Thank you for working so hard on the Albatross!
@FndrStrat06 Haha, thanks! Iāll take a crown and ginger in honour of the new livery.
@LemonTag102808 I donāt see them yet either. Iām guessing they will come online when the marketplace does.
Iāve posted my own slightly more detailed version of the release notes, with some extra info, and a link to the updated manual here:
Thanks all!
-Mike
Hey Mike, love the plane. Probably one of the best seaplanes ever in a sim! Couple questions. It seems
that mixture setting and cowl flap positions donāt have any discernible effect on cylinder head temps and the oil cooler doors donāt affect oil temps. Is this a limitation of what 2024 can simulate currently? Would love to see some proper radial engine management added. Itās part of what makes these old birds so interesting and special for me. Keep up the good work.
@LowBeast11 Thank you very much for the kind words and feedback.
Youāre right, things are a little limited in fidelity for oil cooler flaps and cowl flaps currently, but Iāve made some tweaks to the oil pressure, oil temp, CHTs, and fuel pressures for the next update, which should bring them a bit more in line with published limits. Theyāll need a little more attention in very hot or cold climates especially.
Cheers.
Yes Arctic Twisting challenges of the Cold WX Canuk Attic and Goat. Whereās my knife, fork and Bib lol. Thank you Mike.
