[MSFS2024] Cessna 172 Skyhawk

I think they actually fixed the 172 in the latest update (even though it’s not in the release notes): I can start the basic Skyhawk.

In other words, I can no longer reproduce the inability to start the analog 172 on the ground.

Can anyone else confirm that?

Yes, it works now!

When was the update? It snuck past me. Nice they can patch so fast.

If policy I’d guess they figure the risk of someone forgetting to set both tanks was greater than cross feeding?

But bad habit to not check!

Yep, worked for me too. Interesting question is, how will we get notified about fixes to default planes in the future?

Since the launch of 2024 I have no sounds while flying the Cessna 172.
I don’t have this issue with other aircraft that I’ve flown so far.
My logic tells me that the issue could be the streamed model and perhaps finding a way to delete what is stored on my app data for the C172 would force it to stream correctly in future?

Huge point here. We’ve spent a lot of time debugging - I don’t want to have to go back, test everything, and start every conversation over again, especially if there are new bugs introduced.

Just a comment here as have been flying this a lot. I am getting 40 FPS with TAA just lowering some of the graphics parameters a touch. It looks good.

Biggest problems have been the moving map seems fixed North, and despite careful flight planning and use the Free Flight drops me of say either Runway 30 or 12 at random it seems when I really want one or the other for a departure.

Eye Candy in the Loire Valley, guess the chateau… (Don’t look at label).

Confirm also resolved with 1.1.10.0 update. Can now start engine with both auto-start and manual process.

I can only find the release notes mentioned on msfsaddons (nothing about the Cessna), any ideas of the official link?

Hello @VAAdventures,

We always post the release notes in the News & Announcements section of the forums. Here’s a link to today’s patch notes:

Thanks,
MSFS Team

I can not see anything about Cessna in the notes. Weird.
maybe it got fixed by accident? lol

Well, not much in the release today for the 172 and the display is the same. I do not understand how one can get the map display to orient to the course flown UP, not NORTH, I believe it will do that correctly even if it does not show the flight plan as a line.

C172 Steam gauge is working now. Im still having problems with implementing the VR mouse to interact in the VR cockpit wit knobs and buttons. door handles etc. Switching from Lock to Legacy [ in General/Flight Interface] , seemed to work temporarily only.

Also, has anyone else noticed the Altimeter does not have the correct Altimeter barometric pressure set up ? Instead of “29.92” etc, it has 1000-2000-3000!

I think the G1000 doesn’t have a good collision mesh, it’s a problem in every airplane. The Garming G3X is good.

The doors and windows are tough as are most default airplanes in the sim. I don’t think most developers use or test in VR. They don’t understand the sloppy hell we have to deal with. It’s not even something you can screen shot on a bug report.

If they aren’t testing in VR, it’s like trying to describe color to someone born blind.

I had no sounds either. I deleted everything in the LOCALCACHE folder located at C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
(I have the Store version). I re launched and it downloaded a bunch of files, now everything works.

From memory: Hit the MENU button, select Map orientation, hit ENT, select TRK UP, profit. Use CLR to get rid of the menu. For some reason, HDG UP doesn’t work, but TRK UP is an improvement over NORTH UP.

The G1000 remembers the setting for each plane individually.

Yes, I have opened a ticket here if you would like to go vote on it: C172 classic altimeter in hPa, cannot change to inHg - #7 by TheM00ps

Thanks, but I do not see Map Orientation after I hit the menu. Just this smaller menu that is very difficult to manipulate.

Realized I have to hit the ENT Button to get to the Map options:

I can select the HDG up option and it blinks but it does not execute eith using the ENT or FWS buttons.

This is a Chinese puzzle. Reminds me of why I finally stopped flying whenm we went from the gauges to the G1000.

Forgive me, Orientation hides in the Map Settings submenu.

So it’s:

  • MENU
  • then ENT to open the Map Settings submenu
  • move Cursor down to Orientation using the outer ring of the bottom right “wedding cake” (one of your arrows is pointing at it)
  • then move the inner ring of the same “wedding cake” to open the available options for Orientation (a tiny subsubmenu with North UP, Track UP, and HDG UP)
  • move the cursor using the inner ring to Track UP
  • ENT to confirm your selection
  • CLR to close the menu.

Hope this helps.

As I mentioned, HDG UP is broken, it doesn’t do anything for me, either.

For reference: https://static.garmin.com/pumac/190-02177-00_A.pdf - check out chapter 5.2 (with the caveat that HDG UP doesn’t work in the current version of the G1000NXi in the sim; it worked in MSFS2020, so it’s gonna be an easy fix. I’m sure Working Title are already on it!)

Hallelujah!

I am 75 now and quit flying when I was 60 and ran into the G1000 and those little knobs for putting in frequencies in single pilot IFR… quitting probably kept me alive for the last 15 years…

Thanks for the references… not sure how much I will use this… but I used to program these simulators and did considerable research on aviation and aging. I still keep up with the tech and I think it helps keep me young. MSFS 2024 despite its problems is much better than what we had.

These are the references if you are interested.

Thanks again!

The Premium and Deluxe versions of MSFS come with a 172 with steam gauges and a GNS530. Doesn’t help with the Career mode, but at least in Free Flight we don’t have to deal with the G1000 if we don’t want to.
