What’s working well for you, and what’s not on day 2?
Do you feel the Despondency now?
After another 6 hours of trying today and sidestepping the identity setup, tried to launch career mode and after selecting an airport, the sim just locked up.
I paid for the Aviator Collector edition and that launch is screwed also and delayed until December.
It’s an utterly shameful launch.
STALKER 2 releases today. I’ll spend my time there instead.
Despondency? Not at all—if anything, it’s a testament to how huge the MSFS community really is. Day one server overload. It will all get sorted out. I’d call it growing pains for something amazing, not a reason to feel down.
That’s what I counting back for and msfs24 goes in the bin. See you in the zone!
Day two. Load up time significantly improved and didn’t have to wait in a que. of course that was at 0500PST so will try again later in the day when the rest of North America wakes up.
Aircraft - all my aircraft seem to have shown up now including 3rd party aircraft from the marketplace.
Airports - only checked on a couple and they didn’t look to good. :(.
Career mode - I do NOT alike the blue taxi and flight guides. There has to be a way to turn those off? Also sitting on the taxi way after my commercial exam, I got pinged for moving onto a taxiway without clearance? How I didn’t even move….?
Activities - the F-18 canyon was interesting, I think the Hornet flies a little too “on the rails” but I’m not a fighter pilot so not certain about the flight physics.
C-172 - seems to fly much closer to a real one (I am a pilot with recent 172 experience) than in 2020, but still seems a little too twitchy on the rudder and in light turbulence.
Lighting - this is certainly much better than 2020
Clouds - didn’t really see much difference, but haven’t done any live weather flights yet.
Scenery- my part of Canada didn’t look to have much improvement, although the trees do look better and thankfully they were not all “red and orange” like seen by some in the tech alpha. BC is green most of the year.
DAY 2 was much better than day 1.
Still not even got past the loading screen, despite numerous 3-4 hour long tries, uninstalls, reboots… always stuck at 97% on a 1GB connection. I seem to be in a dwindling number still not got to experience all the other bugs!
I’m sorry to say but I’m really disappointed so far.
2 hours in queue then it CTD as soon as I plugged in my VKB stick.
2 more hours in queue.
Then 2 hours to set up my controls because it was all blank. There a couple of new improvements to the controls setup but there’s also a bunch of things that are much worse. On balance the 2020 controls screens were more flexible and easier to use.
I jumped into free flight at my home airport YPAD and the autogen looked every bit as awful as in 2020. Only the ground textures on the taxiways and apron were improved (they are actually very nice and detailed now). I’m going to need all of my 3rd party airports back, but sadly we can’t get any of them through the library yet.
The scenery around Adelaide looked every bit as bad as before, the KI terrain spike was smaller but still there, the city was covered in red wash still.
The trees were all autumnal but we are in spring heading into summer here. It looks so wrong.
So I decided to do the career. It wouldn’t let me choose YPPF at the starter airport, which is broken because that’s the main GA airport in Adelaide and has heaps of flight schools. I chose YADG instead but without the addons it didn’t look good.
I started to do the private pilot lessons. Despite me choosing Australia to learn in these lessons all seemed to be in the air over USA and not where I’d selected, which was quite a fail.
I quickly got fed up of the lessons. Didn’t feel realistic at all, 2 minutes of loading screens for a trivial 1 minute exercise and blue boxes in the sky even with all assists off. Got through a few of those before I couldn’t stand it any more.
So I tried the exam. Basic external preflight OK, it wanted me to ctrl-e the engines which is not possible IRL. I started them manually but should be following a checklist here. I taxied but it drew awful arrows all over the ground despite those being turned off in the assists.
No runup was conducted. Takeoff was fine no manoeuvres were requested just a pattern landing. Pattern was OK but with markers in the air. I came onto final way too high because I wasn’t really paying attention to my path, decided to dive bomb the runway. Came in at 95kt in the 172, bounced 3 times, used up half the runway before getting 3 wheels down, and managed to stop and park.
I passed first time! So the certification is really a complete joke and about as far from anything realistic as you could get. Really disappointed by that, but probably means I can pass all the others first time too.
There’s definitely some cool improvements but there’s also a bunch of stuff that’s been made worse for no reason. eg. In the aircraft selection you can’t even filter for airliners, props, etc. And now it scrolls the list sideways instead of down, which is much worse on an ultra wide screen. There’s heaps more but I need to be asleep…
FPS was awful even in the training activities using similar gfx settings to 2020, so no idea what’s up there.
Anyway, overall I was optimistic but certainly didn’t expect everything to be amazing and improved, and knew that basically its the same game with some improvements. I wasn’t really expecting so many of the improvements to actually make it worse. And not having any of the 3rd party content available for who knows how long makes the sim look quite bad again, it’s like regressing a couple of years.
Oh I tried the EFB, mostly nice but didn’t have any charts for me. I also tried the web planner and that was good, but again no charts even at international airports in Aus. Maybe they didn’t cover this far?
Am I wrong to have expected to see the Asobo A320 (version 1) in addition to the Inibuilds A320 (version 2) in my hanger?
Got my 2020 Marketplace content imported and it appears to see all the planes now. Did a quick pre-dawn VFR flight in Los Angeles, everything seems to be working and I’m still getting the smoother performance in this area that I saw in the Tech Alpha, much to my pleasure.
Much less in the way of brief stutters and frame drops (which I always assumed were due to loading scenery in/out as it moved around the busy L.A. area).
Still have to figure out how to optimize my peripheral configurations, but general perf and functionality seems good so far.
Mileage may vary – I have consistently good connectivity to MS’s servers so far it seems, so it was just the overloaded backend services that were killing me yesterday.
That’s what I expected, too. I bought several livery packs for the Asobo 320 and would be disappointed to have that money go to waste.
What you were stuck yesterday in the Loadbar, you are stuck now in the Loadscreen before flight.
Nothing changed.
Update. When trying to set up my tobii hardware CTD every time. Hmmmmm another add to the growing bug list.
Also has anyone figured out how to take a picture??? I bound a key to my yoke, but it doesn’t seem to work.
Confirmed that I can still get in–in a reasonable amount of time no less . After a night’s sleep, the control remapping, lack of defaults, etc. doesn’t look any better. I don’t want to waste my time mapping controls when what I want to be using is AAO. Really frustrated that they didn’t have a beta and even more frustrated that they didn’t give ISVs early access so our add-ons could be working day 1. Both of these things are no-brainers when you are customer focused, so I’m scratching my head here. It isn’t a good look and it just feels arrogant. While I’m optimistic for the long term prospects of the sim, between the mismanaged launch and the stupid stuff I’m seeing, I’m feeling a bit deflated. This thing shouldn’t have released unless it was going to be a seamless transition from MSFS 2020, and it isn’t.
FYI: KSEA is still borked:
I have had no luck, and the game is no better. I have removed it (the gamepass version as I already got a refund for aviator version).
I am just keeping an eye on the forums now to see what unfolds.
Anyone else having issues with their Turtle Beach VelocityOne trim wheel not being recognized? Works fine in MS2020 – but I can’t get it to bind in 2024. Makes flying extremely difficult when you have no trim control…
So far UK users have only got a flakey screensaver.
I got in this morning no problem but do have a question - is there no Developer Mode option that shows the FPS, Limited by Mainthread or GPU, etc?
I haven’t had a chance to configure my VelocityOne in MSFS 2024 yet. Hopefully, I’ll be able to try this after work today – if I can even get on the simulator then.
got my planes imported, but no flying today. bandwith warnings all day
was gonna map my controllers but game didnt recognize my gaming mouse, so got fed up and honestly disappointed
Besides I dont even know what [ turned backwards by 45 degrees means, NUM del??
Also my 4090 is blasting and heating like a maniac and nothing on screen. thats a waste, hope it will soon be solved. (The bandwith issues)
Never closes properly either btw.
