Thanks,
MSFS Team

The altimeter doesn’t seem to work. Otherwise it’s fun to fly.

Also the ballast does not work. You can set it on the tablet, but then it is not loaded on the glider.

Ok, I did another flight and noticed that the digital variometer is not working either… too bad!

Gliders are still not working since the beginnen in 2020.
I am very disappointed about this.
How is anyone supposed to get excited about gliding?

Hello,

I want to raise a few points:

  1. The maximum altitude of 3962m (FL130) which is indicated in FS2024 is not correct. When I fly in the Alps I am often at more than 4000-4500m and when I go into wave flight I climb up to 5950m. Technically I can go higher but I am not authorized to exceed FL195 because after that I am in the Airways…

  2. The effect of the airbrakes does not correspond to reality: the airbrake does not brake (!) it removes the lift of a part of the wing and the sink rate is increased. In FS2024 the speed decreases too much in the deployment of the airbrakes.

  3. The cruising speed, empty weight - without water, is close to 100km/h and not 148km/h.

I have more than 1500 hours of flight like 500 hours on LS8 and 1000 hours on LS6 (with flaps).

There seems to be a problem with the effect of the spoilers/airbrakes in the flight model. I never flew the LS-8 in real life (but I’m an instructor flying the DG-1001 with flying experience on the LS-4, LS-6 and many other types) and as with most gliders, the impact of spoiler/airbrake deployment on pitch is rather small and almost unnoticable regarding airspeed. Extending the spoilers/airbrakes makes the nose drop slightly and automatically compensating for the loss of lift and increased drag. Therefore, it requires NO re-trimming of the aircraft to maintain trim speed while operating the spoilers/airbrakes.

In the simulator on the other hand, when extending the spoilers/airbrakes, the nose rises up quite a a lot, requiring pitch adjustment and re-trimming of the aircraft. The Got Friends gliders (Stemme and Taurus) behave correctly and feel very natural but both Asobo got something wrong.

In real life, in calm weather you can trim the glider to the desired approach speed (usually 100 kph with surface winds calm) and only use the spoilers/airbrakes to control the descent angle/aiming point (where the aircraft would impact the ground without any further control inputs) right up to the gate where you initiate the flare.

PS: This is mostly a copy of my entry in the DG-1001 feedback section. But it‘s just as valid for this aircraft.
