ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: When, i quit msfs2024 , MSFS2024 does not shut down properly , i kill FlightSimulator2024.exe with the Task manager de Windows 11 !!

[PC Only] with addons or Not

REPRODUCTION STEPS

  1. Quit MSFS2024 to desktop
  2. FlightSimulator2024.exe task run
  3. Kill the task with Task manager de Windows 11

Hello, same for me with specific airplanes, for example A320 inibuilds. But no problem with A320 FBW.

This issue is as old as FS2020 and unfortunately is still present in FS2024. My solution is to close all addons before I exit FS2024 and 9 out of 10 times it works. Asobo will never fix it so it’s better to find your own solution.

I have a bat file that I run before exiting the game. You will obviously have different addons so adjust it to what you have.

For me the same, especially after career mode flight lessons. Not 100% of all tries buto about 90-95%.

With all Inibuild aircraft ? like A310/320/321/330/A400M ?

this Bug is fix with next SimUpdate

For heaven’s sake. This issue has nothing to do with airplanes and addons or anything else. It will manifest itself VANILLA. From DAY1.

I logged this bug way back in November, and it has suspiciously gone missing in these forums.

FS2024 does not shutdown cleanly. Period.

It stays resident sucking away your RAM. You can only fix this by terminating it in the task manager. The task manager and FS2024 now co-exist on my system to deal with this issue.

Microsoft make the OS and the game. You’d think it could do something as simple as shutting down properly. No mention of this in any of their road maps. Swept under the carpet.

I have the same problem. (26.1.25) Every time I try to exit.
Pc, 64gb ram, RTX 4090, intel I9 cpu, SSD drive.
Can only exit using task manager then have to go through the horrendous loading time.

Hi, i create this file on my desktop. STOP MSSFS2024
KILL MSFS2024.TXT (42 Bytes)
Rename the file : KILL MSFS2024.BAT

As I put in another post about this bug.
After shutdown it can take anywhere from 10 mins to 90 mins to shutdown. It will go if you leave it, at least it does for me.

I think it is a server link issue as it always takes over a minute to load language on startup. A good friend of mine gets neither issues.

I have kept a tally and of all the stats it has only shutdown immediately 6 times.

MS Store version.

I’m on steam. 20 minutes from starting play to actually get into main menu. Then after ending session to desktop, window and sound disappear but task stays.

HeLLo MSFS2024 does not shut down properly here also. I am currently checking if it is my antivirus which is faulty here…
I’ve tried without my antivirus, same problem! it seems to be a graphical freeze…

Same issue.

I’ve noticed that if there’s an issue with Xbox Live MSFS doesn’t close properly - we have to manually kill its process.

I figured it out you have to alt +enter before leaving game - full screen leaving the game is the problem folks try it

Its not ideal but it works and sim shuts down fast - this was on Steam version no idea on store version

Probably a driver issue - this was on last driver not the new one I don’t like the new driver for 40 series cards - clouds were awful - rolled back to the last driver before this new 5090 series driver - all good again - thanks

Oh if you remove Geforce app - my start times have gone from 4:00 to 2:00 avg :slight_smile:

Hmm, MS Store version. This didn’t work for me. Still hangs on exit. And I’ve not touched my Nvidia drivers in at least a month.

I started getting this issue in SU1 beta 1. I did a reinstall of MSFS 2024 and that fixed it.

Reinstalling MSFS 2024 SU1 beta 2 did not solve the problem. :frowning:

So far so good here still works getting out of full screen before shutting down - tried quite a bit today - they will sort it out :slight_smile:

One question- do you start MSFS 2024 full screen, do a flight, then alt-enter to windowed mode to exit?

That would make MSFS 2024 start the next time windowed.

I guess I’m just trying to figure out if there’s more to the alt-enter that I’m still missing.

Sim will start back up in windowed mode as it remembers its last state so I just alt+enter again :+1:
