MSFS2024 FPS Degradation

Hello everyone,

After finally making the permanent switch to MSFS2024 I am experiencing servere FPS degradations on my flights, all of them, no matter the time.
I’ve done 3 flights in total and it is extremely apparent that I am getting some degradations over time here. I’ve done LHR-JFK, JFK-LHR, and LGW-BFS, and for an idea on how bad it is I play on 1080p meduim with these specs:
-Ryzen 7 9800X3D
-AMD RX7900XT
-TForce Delta DDR5 RAM Kit (6000MHz, CL30)
-Gigabye Aorus Elite B650 AX V2
-Crutial P310 1TB NVME
(rest is not relevant)

On the LHR-JFK flight the degradation was not as noticable as I was not paying much attention, although on the way back when comming into LHR I expected it to be up around in the 50s or even 60s as all of my settings are optimized extremely well comming from an ancient proccessor and a GTX1650. Once I landed I parked up and took note of my FPS (was around 33, stable with no frame generation), I then closed the sim down and fired it straight back up into the exact same situation, exactly the same. It was around 75, stable, without the frame generation.

After that flight I downloaded Intelegent Standby List Cleaner (ISLC) which was reccomened by a fellow YouTuber which basically clears out your DRAM. Not completely sure how it works, but they said that it was basically a great app for long haul flights. Then after doing LGW-BFS just today i checked it again. It was 55 FPS stable at the destination beforehand, and then it was well above 78 when I reloaded the sim.

Now I am used to having slightly lower FPS after a long flight, as I would expect it mabye to drop a few frames. But this guys, is like a complete dive down in FPS compared to what I would expect. I’m currently on SU2 (stable) and I am wondering if anyone else is having this issue at all in both SU2 and 3, or if SU3 Beta is the solution.

Just like to put out the things I’ve tried as I dont want to waste anyones time:
-VRAM is not an issue. I have got plenty of space.
-Thermal throttling is not an issue. Temps are extremely stable and not even close to overheating.

Also would like to say in case it comes down to it. My PC is a custom build, I built it myself and I’ve had it for about a month, but not been able to actually use it as I’ve had issues with the PSU clicking. (heads up don’t by Corsair’s RMe series, it’s basically a 50/50)

Hello, a lot of info above. For clarity, what aircraft model(s) are you flying to these large airports (any of them 3rd party/which ones) and what FPS counts as severely degraded? Just wondering. Nice rig!

Hello and thank you for the kind comments.

I am running all the top of the line aircraft. Although I only am using currently the Fenix Airbus A320 Family and Inibuilds A350.
As for airports I have most of them from FS.to as well as some purchases I’ve made on various platforms including MSFS Marketplace and Inimanager.

I wouldn’t consider an FPS as ‘degrading’ but more the difference. I am alright with mabye 5, 10, FPS loss after a long 10 hour flight but just after an hour and a half uptime flight dropping almost 50 FPS is not on for me. I like good frames as it is the one thing that makes my sim feel amazing for me. I know that people aim extremely high on the settings and thats not for me.

Anyway my friend I just hope to get this fixed, I will continue to fly with it, but there will come a point in time, hopefully not, where I will once again have to switch back over to the old simulator, where I do not like the lighting and shadows could not be worse.

Same issue,

737max, every flight, - as the flight proceeds, the FPS starts reducing, can usually tell because it gets a bit sluggish in cruise (least demanding phase), on final to land is rather messy and sluggish to say the least.

I checked today, got on the stand at destination, FPS, was barely touching 25 (average), ended the flight, restarted sim and loaded directly back up at the destination gate in the same conditions, back to solid 60 (v-sync on).

FPS and performance is absolutely degrading with time, i have a 3090.

No thermal throttle or VRAM issue on my end either,

Here is the mess when i got on stand.

I too have experienced this in the Max in SU2. Hoping that SU3 will fix this, but time will tell.

I used 2020’s 788 the other day, cannot say for certain if i had the issue in that aircraft, supposed i’d have to test it out again to confirm for sure, but defo 738

Hi,

Just to update, i did the return leg with the 788 and it seemed miles better, so i guess the issue is potentially just isolated to the default 73max

Hiya mate thanks for the reply, I’ve got the fix, for me at least, here’s what I’ve done:

Alright so once again Windows and it’s idiotic power saving settings have striked again, I saw this video on YT, which I can’t find in my history because I was watching it on my laptop which was new and so on.
Anyway it said to do the following and here’s what helped me:

  • Go to search, edit power plan
  • Advanced power settings
  • Look for processor power management
  • Set the minimum processor state to 100%

Now hopefully you aren’t going to listen to some rando on MSFS forums but I’m gonna give my word to you that I’ve done around 3 flights with this setting on, 2 of them being well over 7 hours and another being short haul, and it’s been competely fine for me. On the arrival into LHR I had some really, really bad FPS issues but this thing blasts it all the way up to what it should be.
The video I watched had 2 different methods but the other involved going into the registry, which I am not putting the potentia fate of my PC or whatnot in the hands of some guy on YT.

Just gonna put out there that this may not be the fix. I’ve went into my BIOS and fiddled around with some of the CPU enhancement settings which where already enabled anyway. Only thing I can think of is my silly ahh turning on XMP instead of EXPO.

Anyway mate I hope this helped you, it’s been all aircraft for me, and remember, expect your FPS to drop slightly when parked up and all. It’s been running for hours and needs a rest xD.

Hello there mate I’ve posted replying to the other guy what I think is the fix. You should take a look and try for yourself. Have a good one : D

Hello,

Interesting, thank you, i’d be surprised if it fixes it for me, given i had no issues with another aircraft, but nonetheless, i will go ahead and give it try

Thanks for coming back with a detailed answer, i will update once i have tested it out.

Glad your problem has gone away, will see you in the next post with a new problem

Not 100% sure if it fixed it but it certainly made it a little better…

I have since ended up re-installing the OS and the Sim, and removing all my oc/s undervolts so going to keep testing for now

Just to let you know, it didn’t resolve the problem
