MSFS2024 in VR is now GPU limited, and that is great

Obviously this a bit more nuanced that the thread title, but now that 2024 really does a good job of utilizing all CPU cores, I’ve found the limit is my now GPU (RTX 4090). This is great news. Yes, 2020 was also technically GPU limited, but now GPU is the primary factor.

In terms of making the sim perform smoothly and have high quality visuals, i can now manage this simply by changing settings that are GPU driven. This was not the case in 2020.

Looking ahead, i am extremely excited for the RTX 5090. I’m confident it will really open things up to allow smooth performance and very high quality visuals. Specifically, the combo of high render resolution, high Terrain LOD, and Object LOD.

PC specs:
Intel 13700K
RTX 4090
64GB DDR5
Quest 3 on link cable.

:joy: LOL, yeah of course it would be nice if everything run on Ultra on the 4090 or below, but 2024 is no ordinary flight sim.

After many years with 2020 and struggling with settings and tweaking things all the time, I just feel like FINALLY with 2024 we’ll be able to have it all in VR when using a top-of-the-line GPU.

Uhm no, the GPU in 2024 is barely utilized, and it’s BAD

Tell that to my 4090 whose GPU cores and VRAM are maxed during flight.

He means to say that HIS GPU is barely utilised.

My 4090 is also maxed out on DLSS @ 36fps and the TLOD is only 140. This is with a Quest 3, so not even the higher end in terms panel clarity.

Then you have your settings too low. Turn up texture resolution, precache and TLOD. You’ll soon be able to fry an egg on that 4090.

Not sure what I’m looking for in this vid? This is 2D

The fact that the GPU is not utilized

Just need a good VR headset now. Please don’t say Pimax…! Waiting for the Mégane X

But it’s only 2D?

Same. Waiting for Valve Deckard, hopefully in the next 12 months.

:person_shrugging: I hate clickbait drama videos every time a game is released. I’m just going to enjoy my sim.

Simple math for me, 2020 almost maxed my 4090, so surely 2024 was going to, and it has. I don’t need some silly youtube video to dramatize this stuff.

It’s good news because CPU speeds have stagnated. Both Intel and AMD are suffering from this. If the game would be CPU limited, we wouldn’t have a chance to run it well any time soon. Now that Nvidia’s 50-series is around the corner, it might just make the sim perform as it should.
