MSFS2024 on XBOX series X - LOD blurred textures

My concern is that the poor LOD is not a server issue.. They butchered the LOD in 2020 towards the end of the game’s cycle, and that wasn’t a server issue.. So whose to say it’ll be any different this version?

My understanding is the same fix we are waiting for with 2020 will apply to 2024 and should unlock better LOD. I hope this is true.

Honestly, seeing the PC people flying and the ground relatively well in 2024, I no longer believe it’s something on the server but rather the old LOD problem that victimized the Series S in 2020 and now victimized the Series X in 2024. I don’t believe that the GDK feature with an extra 500MB of RAM and 2GB of virtual memory has been implemented for the console. In fact, I thought (in my ignorance) that with the introduction of this Streaming system it would reduce the memory load and would compensate for this in more abundant internet use, but that’s not what happened.

I am inclined to agree. My experience on PC so far has been surprisingly good considering my minimum spec CPU.

This LOD issue on Xbox really feels like it can be fixed. 2024 runs too good on low end PC hardware.

Yes, the LOD in 2020 was also been degraded after each sim update. The expectation is that since 2024 version is promised to demand less RAM than 2020 one, we would have a better performance. Including the fact that most of data is processed on servers, well. Let’s hope that’s just a server issue, and differently of the 2020, it will be easier to solve by the devs.

Same here, I’m having LOD problems on the Series X. Here is a picture:

I don’t think the LOD problem is intentional with FS2024. This new sim has something called “dynamic settings”. It’s likely enabled on the console. On PC you could manually turn it off. On console, you can’t. It’s basically hidden from console users. If I didn’t have a PC, I would’ve never known about it.

What the setting does is it adjusts the LOD levels to meet a target frame rate. For example, 30 FPS as on the Xbox consoles. In order to maintain 30 FPS, the sim will automatically adjust in-game settings to help achieve that frame rate.

So essentially, FS2024 will reduce its LOD settings and lower graphics settings to prioritise FPS. So whenever your console is under stress or struggling, you end up having low LODS, which lead to blurry textures, and just a poorer image. This is what’s happening.

You’re absolutely correct. I did a test between my PC and Xbox Series X with the same network connections (1GB download speed). What I found is that my PC has a clearly picture and was less blurry than the Xbox Series X.

Here are the screenshots:

This is my PC (with medium settings)

And this is on my Xbox Series X

If this was server side, I’d also have steaming issues on my PC. But that’s not the case. The Xbox consoles have a serious problem with the LODs.

That’s shocking. Looks like the resolution was cut in half! For Series S i could understand, but for XSX? Come on.

So much blurrier on XSX. Giving it an even more cartoon like look.

This feels like an uppercut. Are they treating console players as 2nd class customers?

I had a feeling that the Series X would be the next victim of the destroyed LOD, just like the Series S was in 2020. Honestly, I truly believed that 2024 would be revolutionary to an otherworldly extent, making the simulator perfect on Xbox, even on the Series S, through real optimization since 2020 had just landed on the console out of nowhere. I was wrong.

I hope the Xbox community doesn’t lose interest in 2024, because if they do, it will be abandoned, and 2020 will become the default simulator on the console for many years.

What airport is this so I can do a similar test? @crazyfrogface

Wow what a huge difference. I was hoping Xbox would get that too. I’ve seen where PC you can adjust all types of graphic settings where Xbox is none.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Only blurred textures. Screenshots from LSZR, Lake Constance. For comparison FS2020, zoom to details! So the console can offer more than FS2024 does. In this poor quality we should forget FS2024 on XBOX :frowning:
If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Same issues since the first day. Flying Switzerland, my usual LSGB area, mountains are no longer looking like mountains . Looks like a cartoon.

Cities are missing most of the data.

I reinstalled MS2020 but it is now crashing on start. I played the cloud version of 2020 same bad graphics. I’m assuming they are taking data from the same servers for both games.

I have reseted my XBOX S and trying to reinstall once again the full 2020, I’ll report tomorrow if this time it works and on the graphics.

Upsetting to have 2024 of lower quality than 2020 but even more to have a downgrade on 2020 as well. And even more to not be able to play 2020 at all.

Whatever server they are running they are not coping. Cloud on Xbox was rarely high quality and often jerky after a one hour flight and it seems the same cloud is used on 2024. The infrastructure need to be expanded.

My Wi-Fi is 300Mbps in the USA

Thanks

Tomorrow’s official Livestream should have a large section dedicated only to Xbox issues.

…but I don’t believe it’ll happen  It’ll be “We coped with unknown forces destroying our servers. It’s all fine, amazing this, amazing that, blah, blah, blah…” Seriously speaking I would be glad if we hear honest answer about their plan for the next weeks fixes.

By the way. Blurred textures returned yesterday after one day of decent graphics. LOD - still bad.

No servers can cope with this streaming madness. They have to allow us to store content locally.

Dear Microsoft Support,

I am writing out of sheer frustration and disappointment regarding the state of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on Xbox. Despite numerous updates and fixes since launch, the game remains riddled with issues that render it almost unplayable on what is supposed to be a next-gen console.

First and foremost, the textures are abysmal. This is a game marketed as a next-gen experience, yet what we are getting is nowhere near the quality shown in pre-release materials. Buildings often load in as pink placeholders, and the ground textures are a complete mess.

The stuttering and crashes to desktop are unacceptable. Free play is completely unplayable due to constant stuttering and random crashes. Is this an admission that the Xbox hardware cannot handle the game, or are your servers the bottleneck? Either way, it is unacceptable for a game of this scale and reputation.

The flight planner is another disaster. There is no clear documentation on how to program it properly, and even when you figure it out, it fails to send information correctly to the aircraft. To make matters worse, ATC does not recognise flights as IFR.

The GPS in NAV mode is completely broken. The magenta line and the assistance boxes do not align at all in career mode, leading to constant frustration. The career mode approaches themselves are questionable and often make no sense.

ATC is riddled with bugs. It talks over itself, ignores requests, or doesn’t respond altogether. This has been an issue since release, and it is baffling that it has not been addressed.

Career mode is supposed to add depth and enjoyment, but the constant aviator penalties are ridiculous. I’m penalised for using flaps at the correct time, for not contacting ATC (even on departure), and for taxiing at speeds that should be acceptable. These penalties make career mode unenjoyable and frustrating.

It is abundantly clear that the issues plaguing Xbox players are being ignored. Jorg Neumann and the development team seem completely disconnected from the flight sim community, especially those of us on Xbox. Are we simply not a priority for you?

I am disgusted by the lack of attention and support for Xbox players and demand that these issues are recognised and addressed immediately. What is the point of marketing a next-gen experience if the game is virtually unplayable?

Sort it out.

Sincerely,
Anthony

I really hope that doesn’t happen as well. But it’s not just Xbox users. I’ve been seeing posts online by PC users considering a switch to X-Plane because of the poor launch of FS2024. Just check out their forums. A lot of people are just not happy with how Asobo handled this one.
