ISSUE DESCRIPTION
Description of the issue: We were told by the developers and also by a number of moderators on this forum, that although data is injected from METAR, cloud cover should NOT and is not one of those data points taken from the METAR.
If this is how it’s intended to work, then this is not working as it is really clear that the natural cloud formations which should be happening, such as overcast over England for the past 3 days, are being disrupted and broken up by the reporting of BKN in the Metar of many airports.
One example I’ve posted pictures of below is at Dublin, which like much of the UK and Ireland has had overcast cloud the past couple of days, but its METAR has been widely reporting SCT of BKN due to only detecting the cloud bases.
Provide specific location or coordinates: Any airport in UK is a great example right now which should be overcast but its METAR is reporting BKN. Try for example EGKK, EGNM, EGNX, EGNJ etc.
Provide time and date of the observed weather issue: Every day.
[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
FREQUENCY OF ISSUE
How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every time.
REPRODUCTION STEPS
Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:
- Load up at an airport which should be overcast going off Meteoblue data, but where its metar is not reporting OVC.
- You can observe that the METAR cloud cover is influencing the cloud when it should not be and the OVC conditions are being broken up.
YOUR SETTINGS
If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.
What peripherals are you using, if relevant:
[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?
[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?
[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?
MEDIA
Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.
See example of EIDW today, 11th December, which should be overcast.
Its METAR is reporting: EIDW 111100Z 08009KT 9999 BKN023 06/02 Q1035 NOSIG
As you can see, over the airport itself the cloud cover gets broken up because it’s being influenced by the metar
But in all other directions around the airport where there are no other airports reporting BKN, the cloud cover is overcast as it should be:
See another example of EGNJ, located here on the red cross and again, should be widespread overcast:
Once again, the METAR is incorrectly breaking up the cloud cover over the airport
And if you look out to the sea for example where there is no METAR influence, it returns to overcast as it should be:
