MSFS24 just the positives

For someone such as myself who’s traveling and flying msfs20 because $$ is tied up with traveling or just simply, still saving money :moneybag: or for those who are sitting on the fence…

For those of whom are on msfs24 and are enjoying it…

Could you share with us all the potential/positives and insights that you are experiencing and especially photos which are aloud in this topic…,
We just want to read and see the positives, what you been up to, so please… Do share your positive thoughts, photos and positive feedback for the developers…

In a way, I hope this post will hopefully become a shinning light for those sitting on the fence and are overwhelmed with reading the tonne of negative feedback…
Help sell it to those people, and give people such as myself who are going to buy it regardless, and are just in certain circumstances that is making the purchase not achievable… Give us some enjoyable and positive content to read…

Reading through these forums definitely has become mind numbing, repetitive and becoming rather quite tiring…

For the moderators… could you delete any negative replies/feedback on this post… There is a poonami tonne of negative feedback on here, so could we make this just simply a positive and negative free safe place for those who just want to simply discuss the positives of msfs 24, for them to share their adventures, post photos etc and, for especially us travelers, and those who are still waiting to buy and just in general, those who prefer to read than watch youtube… help us to read the positives …

Oh and for those moderators who like combining topics…
Maybe use this title/thread as the main topic and combine all current positive threads into one post, just like you guys have done in the past with various topics…

I downloaded the 20th of November pretty fast first 12GB base game content
In 9 minutes with 1GB fibre,
How i did before install?
Update all latest from microsoft store and windows10 and xbox app
Disconnect usb devices like rudder and yoke etc,
I bought on microsoft store logged in with account and i bought then logged out and in again
Select the location on the disk where it is suppose to be of choice, then downloaded the purchased product.
Before fire up the sim starts or need to be started manually ( not sure ) but make sure the location is different on the same or another disk location (also it needs different location than 2020 was in, this is very important)
Then update and stuff got downloaded to this newly chosen directory
When it hangs after decompressing or freeze restart, i had about 6 times needed but it will load faster on each start and also i had trouble with text but this resolve itself after restarts and so i got through.
Once it is downloaded and you are ready for your first flight
This new sim works a bit different than its predecessor, but not much and remember than u are used to 2020 so disconnect your own autopilot for now.
Keybinds are different so get used to them or reprogram them that is up to you. I go with the new for now.
You will notice you got further and further as you go along.
I even had a memory error during setup but it gave me warning and if press ok it shut down the sim instead of a blunt ctd. (Very nice progress i would say solution if this is intend by Asobo yes i am serious) next time fired up the sim there were no problems of this memory error so i suppose it adressed it self.
Also reconnect usb periphals in the sim just to be sure, this setting up seems a bit odd, but thats fine, just have to take a closer look to it.

As for today i did flight training created character and took off in careermode

I role on old 3930K intell with msi X79A-GD65 mobo pci-e gen3 and 2666mhz ddr3 32GB ram and intel arc phantom 16gb 1GB optical fibre internet connection. Almost all on ultra and 400
200 lod settings
I find lod roll in smoothly and nice i even see trees with no leafs but it is near winter in the netherlands so it is fine i think it means seasonal changes.
Cairns last evening look good,
O yeah before i forget i got noted by bellsiign on gamertag bar there was a message by a yellow dot that sim was now ready to port over 3thparty stuff bought thru microsoft marketplace so when i was ready i could shut down the sim and restart again and it would be ported over to 2024, and indeed that was what it did.

The thing i tried also is ir headtracking without changing anything here i use freeware and it worked like a charm.

So yeah im very content how well it went and i fore see a lot of happy landings in the near future with mindblowing image

Have fun, and i hope we all do well

Sebastiaan

The quality of the landscape in the Grand Canyon looked amazing as long as the servers were able to stream it. I was mind blown

Even the positive have to have a caveat… “as long as the servers were able to stream it”. That says a lot and isn’t a confidence builder for anyone.

Negatives aside, I am blown away by the night lighting… it is pretty spectacular and a huge improvement. Distant lights are… well… distant, really distant. I think I will really enjoy night flying now!

Also in VR, objects no longer pop in, they are rendering in the distance correctly.

A couple of nice wins alongside the chaos with the servers.

It’s definitely a shakey launch but there’s some good bones in the new sim. Atmosphere and lighting do look nicer, and I’ve got some new toys to play with – definitely going to be schlepping some virtual cargo in the SkyCourier.

And I’m getting much smoother performance in Los Angeles, a busy scenery area that was always stuttery in 2020!

I’m looking forward to bugs and server issues getting ironed out, and I expect to be very happy with the state of things a while down the line.

On this post I am meaning…,
Absolutely I agree with you regarding those negative posts and threads about msfs 24, and that, they should not be deleted as it is all about ensuring that bugs and issues are addressed… I for one am annoyed with the ATR…
But as long as its constructive and helps with the development of my fav hobby and my passion and also, giving praise for where its due as well and being positive, especially in this current world…

Many posts throughout the years have been derailed and I put my hand up and guilty of that but on this post I just want to keep it positive…
There are a tonnage of negative threads right now and its just becoming an absolute brain drain…
I just want people to post on this thread, about all the positives they have had on msfs 24 so far and post photos of their adventures, get me excited for when I’m back working and go out to the digital shop and get a copy of this game and not only that…
But also to shed light on the good in msfs 24 for those who are on the fence…
We have youtube but its nice to read about adventures here and especially while traveling… YT soaks up those esim data plans like theres no tomorrow.

Flying really well for 2 days now. Controller settings were a little challenging setting up because it’s slightly different from 2020, but now my controller is set up perfectly for planes and helicopters. Really enjoying it; it loads in exactly 2 minutes and 55 seconds and sometimes about 10 seconds over 3 minutes. Thought the scenery would be much better looking through the cockpit windshield, but it looks hazy. External views look good. Not sure weather is totally accurate, but still close enough. I’m happy. 4 year old Jetline Computer with GeForce 1080 ti card. Very smooth and fluid. Everything’s on ULTRA or HIGH.

It’s going to be a walk in the forest for a while with the client. IMO we are looking at 3-6 months to get most of the onerous issues cleared out. But what a magnificent platform this will be for many years. I run VR (quest 3 via Virtual Desktop when in the comfort of my residence and occulus cable link when not) and honestly it has been a smooth experience. The lighting engine is fantastic and finally night lights are looking more true to life. The ground modeling of the aircraft is a major enhancement (brakes, ground lift inhibit devices and thrust reversers are needed … finally! The runway texturing to include tire scuff marks are well done and seem to match with airport movement data. Trees, grass, road and traffic systems look very realistic. I know the OP didn’t solicit negatives but the clouds could be better. New sim releases are like Christmas morning for me and I have yet to have experience one that went according to plans. Lately loading times are greatly reduced. Give it a little time to polish and we will have a winner. Cheers :clinking_glasses:

2024 is great with lots of good features. Like you can navigate the menus using keys, which is quicker than mouse clicks for me.

I like the internal HUD, to quickly glance at speed/altitude without disturbing the view, with an awkward command or mouse juggling which is distracting during takeoff/landing when the instruments are difficult to read.
Like driving, keep your eyes on the road ahead and your hands on the wheel.

That’s a few small but important details.

However the Azure network holds back 2024 dramatically, preventing it from showing its true glorious colours.
So 2024 will mature …as fast as Microsoft devote network resources, and as fast as Asobo let us download data just once.

Hello,
The main cause of the problems encountered in the first few hours of msfs24’s availability was the very large number of simultaneous connections, which can be seen as a positive aspect. I contributed to the problem by connecting as early as 5 p.m. and quickly gave up. The next day everything went smoothly and I’m now discovering the many changes compared with msfs2020.
Best regards

OP requested this topic to be about positive things and not the negative aspects or the reason of those negative aspects, respect that, you don’t have to read this thread if you don’t want to. We can consider everything negative as being off-topic for this thread and that should be removed.

I didn’t have much time to try it out so far but when I used it yesterday the performance was pretty good and I liked how the aircraft slightly “wobbled” over the little cracks and bump in the tarmac and the ground textures are so much better now. Looking forward to exploring a lot more this weekend.

Installed MSFS2024 on my Xbox series S. I did a short flight in the Cessna 152 a cirquit at flytampa EKCH (which has come available in my library), motion/frames was fluid and it actually looked quite nice, I never have had this god experience with MSFS2020 on my Xbox. So a good story here.

On my PC a whole other story…

But the PC visual’s eg. lighting, ground, cloud and some areas are quite nice in 2D Ultra pancake mode and VR ,just unstable and faulty.

For me - even after installing Addonslinker and adding the majority of my 2020 addons - the game launches faster than 2020. I haven’t timed it, but I think I will later just to compare.

Also - VR is super smooth and I’ve done very little to the settings. I used their suggested settings for my system (7800x3d, 4090) and VR works great around 60fps unless in NY or something. Granted, in time I’ll push things. But for now - it looks and performs fine.

I guees your renderscale was at 80% as default?, It was also smooth for me at 80%, same Spec 7800x3d/4090/crystal light.
Tried 100% render scale and it was a stutter fest.

In MSFS2020 it is no problem rendering at 100%.

If default is 80%, then I’m sure it still is. When I get home today I’ll give that a try and see if I get similar results.

The Plusses for me so far (on only a hadful of flights though) -

  1. Short install process
  2. Shorter sim boot times (nothing in community) boot is < 3min
  3. Shorter flight load time**
  4. Landscape and terrain is better looking**
  5. Mountains look great**
  6. New world map looks nice**
  7. AI cars and other vehicles look better (headlights/tail lights)
  8. Airport vehicles look better (up close) but have a vicious LOD
  9. AI aircraft traffic models looks quite good but have dubious behaviour/default liveries
  10. Night lighting to me looks nice and clear (in a close radius) except for the airports which are too bright with blue taxiway lighting dominating and too much bloom
  11. The performance is better now and CPU cores are all loaded/working better, minimal stutters in game now
  12. It is nice to not have everything installed locally, and would be great to have just what you use (aircraft wise at least) stored locally, but we’re not there yet. (no option enabled)
  13. Trees look good, they can even sway
  14. Lots of things to keep you busy**
  15. New EFB has potential
  16. Walkaround is nice, but I find it annoying to have to do it for every flight. Should be an option to skip it.
  17. Has potential to be great when/if main issues are resolved.

** when servers work and bandwidth isn’t a problem

Minuses (sorry you knew I’d have to)

  1. Server issues aside streaming is too slow especially when aircraft are involved. (for me on ADSL & no option yet to download the aircraft locally which could make a big difference to streaming performance for many)
  2. Even ignoring #1 and assuming you get in I have encountered bugs on every flight. Silly stuff, but every flight.
  3. New controls/keybindings & UI system is not intuitive
  4. Can’t comment on aircraft sound as I’ve yet to hear any aircraft sound, it’s all inop for me. But not everyone seems to have this issue. {EDIT: now fixed}

Some of the positives I’ve seen.

  • The tree models look fantastic. They completely change the look of the world.
  • Flight physics. Particularly the takeoff/landing phase is so good. This is in regards to the 172, as I haven’t flown a ton of others just yet.
  • Quick load times. Loading a flight is so much faster than before.
  • Animals. They add a bit more life to the world.
  • career mode is actually drawing me in more than I expected
  • EFB is a nice addition - i just have to learn it
  • Seasons. This is a big deal for me. Not only did they include the four seasons, but I noticed they change incrementally too. There’s not simply an “autumn” look. It progresses every day throughout the season.
  • ground deformation/grass laying down where you’ve rode over it is really cool
  • getting out of the aircraft is amazing. I landed on a beach yesterday and being able to hop out and walk around the area was really neat
  • menus and setting up a flight feels much easier on xbox than it did in msfs2020

There are some negatives or imperfections that come with the above mentioned positives, but to keep it to just the positives we’ll leave it at that. :slightly_smiling_face:

I have not been brave enough to move any community content in yet.

I can tell my own scenery stuff will need some work given how much has changed.

My positives are the visual realism and smooth VR performance. But much basic stuff needs fixing.

Yesterday I flew through Tasmania, it was Live Weather.
I had adjusted my graphic settings with with DLSS and the flight was superb. Good frame rate, very convincing atmosphere, some rain close to peak of a mountain, strong winds there also.
Even though some bugs still are plaguing the Simulator, I can say there is no more going back to 2020. Msfs 2024 is far superior.
