Msfs24 lod

the msfs 2024 has a very bad LOD, everything is blurry on ground already from 10,000 feet

Yes, I noticed this during a flight in the A330 departing EIDW. I got above like 8000 feet and the ground went down to the standard of FS 2004.

maybe there do it for a better performence or the streaming still bad

if it still in the future so badly it would be a big step backwards

LOD is much worse than 2020! I just finished two comparison flights in Switzerland, approaching LSZH from the East. in 2020 with a TLOD of 250 and Zurich’s PG was visible from around 20NM, including the custom airport LSZH. Doing the same in 2024, the city’s PG started to appear around 10NM out (same TLOD 250) and then built itself in ‘rings’ of a few hundred meters, piece by piece. Not a nice sight and feels totally immersion breaking. The same goes for mountain ranges. Yes they are now much crisper than in 2020, but you have to be within 5NM, anything farther out, and they are just rounded masses without any detail. I truly hope this has to do with the servers??

Poor LOD is due to bandwidth problems with servers. It will get fixed sooner or later.

In the context of the original post I would agree, as it was clearly asking about the terrain.

However, in a more general interpretation of “FS2024 LOD” I do see some room for improvement for the LOD handling. There are two things which so far I find the most confusing:

  • Aircraft are parked or moving around the airport … without landing gear
  • Ground vehicles are visibly very “box” und flat … and only get a (really) nice shape up close.

So to me it seems like there is room for improvement. Perhaps those are just bugs in the 3D models, and not fundamental issues with the sims LOD logic (rules).

Here is an example of a parked … but “floating” … Cessna (near the refueling stations)

The Vision Jet has another interesting LOD bug … at a very specific distance a retracted landing gear will partially “pop out”:

The LOD is so bad that just switching to external view in the Daher TBM930 changes the LOD to a low quality model. Even just increasing the FOV a tad inside the cockpit removes details of the interior as well.

Why on earth they have made it this way is beyond me.

I am hoping your are so right

Yeah I noticed this with the grand canyon. The parts that are further away are just brown mud hills lol.

Those would be affected by the object level of detail setting, not the terrain LOD.

I’m afraid this bad LoD and the blurriness is intentional and not a server problem. It’s a huge disappointment. A huge step backwards.

Oh no :worried:
Has this been confirmed by MS/Asobo or this your view, thank you

thats my view

I am actually shocked and very disappointed

Yes, it’s extremely disappointing — a very clear regression

Have you tried turning off dynamic settings? Seems like a great feature for FPS, but feel that might be causing some of the low apparent LOD issues. Have only just starting to play about with it - but noticed blurry textures at 10k feet despite my FPS being pegged at 90. When I turned off dynamic settings this did have an impact (i.e. without frame generation went from 75 to 55, so still hitting 90) but felt the scenery was much clearer.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just tried it with ‘off’ and other than introducing stutters on take-off, didn’t make any difference in terms of TLOD - mountains are still flat and melted and now also have the dreaded terrain pop-in back…Truly hope it is server related and not a new ‘feature’ in 2024

it would be nice if someone official could comment on this

That’s odd because I was just thinking to myself earlier that the sim is doing a much better job blending the LOD changes than 2020. I no longer see the pop-ins as terrain tiles move to a higher detail later when I’m approaching them.

I have dynamic LOD turned off and TLOD near max. It’s not as detailed as 2020, but useable. Dynamic LOD does make a mess of things, though.

uncheck Dynamic Level of Detail, but you will need the HW to carry the added load. I think DLD is a good option but needs tuning, Auto FPS far better if its ported to MSFS 2024
