Multi Monitor vs Large Curved Monitor

My Samsung 49" Curved monitor finally crapped out on me (Be careful with those monitors, that was my second one in as many years). I’m thinking about replacing but I’m also thinking maybe I should go with a multi monitor set-up? I tend to play MSFS in “Windowed” mode because I like to view Navigraph and other stuff windowed as well. I do this knowing my performance takes a hit in Windowed mode.
Is it possible to play “Full Screen” mode on one monitor and use the other for Navigraph and other peripherals in a multi monitor set-up? I have a 4090 so I’m really not worried about the set-up. Just wondering if multi monitor is a better set-up for my simming style?

I play with MSFS in full screen mode on my 3440x1440 WQHD monitor and use my second 2560x1440 QHD monitor for Little Navmap, Volanta, and a web browser with charts, this forum, etc.

Yes, for the most part it “just works”; I have a 3440x1440 HDR main monitor for the sim and a smaller 4K non-HDR monitor for the desktop, so can pull up flight plans, check social media, whatever.

When mixing different types of monitors, sometimes it matters which one is the “primary” monitor – I found I get the most reliable interactions with screen recording etc with the gaming monitor set as the primary in Windows settings.

I have a widescreen curved monitor which I bought for MSFS. It was never really very good: the edges of the image are stretched horizontally to fill the screen.

When multi-monitor came along (SU10 beta?) I switched to using three 1920x1200 monitors which I happened to have spare. Much, much better. One in front, one sideways on either side. Wrap-around vision makes it far easier to fly vfr and far more immersive.

I also have a couple of touchscreen monitors below the front one for instruments (running Air Manager)

If you don’t believe me that multi monitors are better, would you like to buy a hardly-used widescreen curved monitor secondhand? I have one I have no use for!

Well, since yer around the 1000 euro range, how about shopping for a projector instead?

If i’d buy a new one, i’d probably go for this one. The ViewSonic (PX748-4K) 4K UHD Projector… it looks to be one of the better ones out there at the moment, but don’t take my word on it, do your research and dont fall for the “HDR ready” stuff, that just means it’s upscaling from 1080p which not really adds any extra quality to the image. You are looking for what the nerds call “Native resolution”

If you have a white wall that’s uncluttered, you can have your wall as a screen, saves on buying a projectorscreen (which is usually smaller than what you can project on a wall). If you can place the projector further from the wall, the better/bigger the image will be. Just mind that there’s cables to be bought to actually connect from your pc to the projector (dont cheap out on them, as some lose quite a lot of signal as of 5meters and upwards) and you’d want your gamingden to be dark to enjoy the image the most… yep, downsides to having a big screen is that you usually have to paste yourself in the middle of the screen, with the imagine either being beamed over your shoulder or maybe hang it on the ceiling inverted wtih a ceiling mount… the projector produces heat, which is nice in winter, but not so grand in summertime. I’ve raced for years with a projector and planned on being able to turn my obutto chair 180 degrees to face the wall, but never actually did that so far as i kinda like my 34" 1440x3440 monitor that’s sat on the stand that came with the obutto. … but i digress… the first time i tried to race on a projector i was completely blown away by the sheer size of the projected screen, i was completely pulled into it by lap 2 (on laguna seca, iracing, skip barber… and that was in 2009). When i bought mine, I had set my projector up to sit on a cabinet in the back left of the room, projecting towards the wall at 5 meters, beaming over my left shoulder as my racerig sat in the middle of the room… the “throw” (as that distance is called) on my first Epson meant i had a screen of 126"… that’s massive, coming from a previous 24,5" screen… hahaha.
Anyways… if you have the room, both in terms of space as in wallet, and in curtains and cables… you might consider a projected msfs image.

With a screen like this, you could afford to make the POV a bit bigger so your world doesn’t look like yer back in the toddler seat. then again, yer used to a pretty big screen already.

Here’s a blast from my past:

Greetings, I am new to this forum. I have been a fan of flight simulator programs since playing with Chuck Yeager’s back in the 80s/90s for some history. Anyways, I was wondering about a multiple monitor setup. I’d like to run a cockpit view from the lcd screen and have a chase plane/front view from a projector. Both monitors are connected to separate Xbox devices so I was thinking co-op mode with one showing a different perspective, or one device spectating the other device’s gameplay. I don’t know how to do this. Question?
