Multiplayer: display other players actual aircraft 3D models and liveries around you

It comes and goes, and it’s annoying as all heck!

Upon the 40th Anniversary release, everyone and their grandmother was flying the Bell 407 over the US Bank tower. Granted, the static rotor blades glitch was a thing, it was still cool to see.

Later, checked out the New York helipad in the 407 and saw a couple H4’s looming over the city.

Nowadays, I’ll be in the 407 and others’ will show up as Generic Bizjets or not at all.

It’s apparently come down to issues with Rolling Cache or server connection quality.

I’m just used to it by now.

180th-ed!

During last fly-in or the one before that, I saw a heli that I didn’t have. Of course, it was “generic-ized” by the sim to a small prop plane that hovered in the air. I mean, I don’t usually play the “but my immersion!” card (since I fly the Pelican a lot), but it would be neat to see peoples actual model and livery. I guess there would be a matter of inter-client security issues with malware embedded in models or whatnot, NSFW liveries and models…(Noone would EVER do that, right?)

How about this: Market models only shown as default. Toggleable custom models at our own peril (those will get the generic treatment if this is off, with helis as helis, fighter jets as FA18, Bigger jets as 747s or whatever. Props and T-props as props, etc. Nearest viable option)

Ironically, when the Pelican was released, model-matching wasn’t an issue, at least for me.

Just to add another anecdote of the weird behavior:
Yesterday I flew the DHC2 Beaver with bush wheels. Some of my friends saw me with the wheels while others saw me with floats. The whole multiplayer system is fundamentally wrong.

If u have the 40th anniversary enhanced mod with the beaver with bush wheels, u’ll or your friend who got that mod installed will see u with the bush wheels.
If you’re friend haven’t got that mod installed, he’ll see u with the floats.

At least better than a generic model like the g-36, but it could just show the normal wheels version :victory_hand::roll_eyes:

Same things happens with the C172 (Classic)

It’s matched by its ICAO Code: C172, that does not distinguish between a c172:Wheel, C172:Float, C172:Ski etc

Its can be"pot luck" what you end up matching to in MP, Unless you have an exact Livery match .. and even then, the matching can fail.

WHY ? Who knows – there seems to be is nothing in the SDK (yet) hat explains the rules for Model matching in MP.

And if there is no AI Model for a particular plane, (as happens with the C172), then you don’t even see a miss-match – you see NOTHING – just a Label !!

Model matching at the moment is very much “A work NOT in progress”, but then, being so, it really can’t get any worse, it can only get better ? :scream:

The model matching system that may have worked at Release Time, when there were only a limited number of Asobo Plane types, now is in total break down, with the addition of all the planes added (or potentially available from P3Ds) since release time

Just had a look at the bug list. Apologies if I missed it, but I can’t seem to see this on either the “last 3 months” list, or the “lifetime” list. I guess we can forget about this getting fixed anytime soon.

what i did recognize on xbox a few weeks back before the LOD fix update, that there has been definetly an issue with Ram-memory using on xbox!

I Tested following proceedure multiple times and was reproduceable:
The Scenario: 2 guys on Xbox have the same 2 aircraft from 3rd party dev (Aircraft A & Aircraft B) purchased via store.
First person spawn into the sim with Aircraft A, so second person spawn into the Sim with Aircraft B.
Alltrough both playsers own both aircraft, the 1st Person will see the 2nd person in Aircraft B as a default generic model, meanwhile 2nd Person in aircraft B can see the first Person in Aircraft A.
The Solution for Person 1 is, to go back to mainmenu. load into the sim again with his aircraft A…and there we go now he can see the 2nd Person in its actual Aircraft B!

This indicates for me a problem how Ram-Memory was used on Xbox.
And this happened even to Aircraft includedd to the standart version, as i tested it with a friend in a standart savage cup and got displayed him as generic g-36 model.

As mentioned, this was before last update which to fix also LOD on Xbox!
Haven’t checked it since, cause switched to pc meanwhile…

As a multiplayer game and with the possibility of downloading community and payware plane addons, i think it is a must have for MSFS to have its own model matching.
I hope that this is a planned feature as it get so boring to have the actual default “model matching” since launch of the game.
Also it is breaking all immersion when flying in bush trips and someone has an addon plane that you don’t have so it casually show a A320N.

Hi.
I am a bit tiert watching Bonansa flying arounds in the sim, just because my friend have a plane I dont own… Please, if planes fx. are sold in you ingame store, there should be a demant from the developer to deliver a skin, so instead of watching the Bonansa, then we should be abel to watch the Bonansa with the skin for that plane. Emagin was value of averticing for your ingame store of selling planes/helicopters that could have. In DCS World we can role out in our new planes and show it of to our friends… Deffently is so nice instead of a generic plane like Bonansa…
Hope you will give MSFS this twist and add those required skins/flightmodels…
Keep up the good work…

Most annoying bug ever!

Beyond stupid. Who could think this system would work and people would be happy with it?
How difficult is to share the aircraft with others?, they have access to everything…
So happy I can see some dude flying F-35 and all I can see A-320 doing loops, real slick…

Call me weird, but I’d even settle if the game simply shows a more appropriate default aircraft. Say someone is flying a taildragger high-wing airplane you don’t have, at least show a default taildragger high-wing airplane, not a tricycle gear low-wing airplane.

This is what I’ve been saying all along. It really wouldn’t take that many generic models of the different types as you outlined to make this so much better. Not perfection but so much more immersive than seeing airliners hovering or laying back trying to be a tail dragger. Glad to see others who see the benefits of something simple like this.

That’s not weird at all. I’d be happy with a solution like this. If “generic” aircraft are the only way to go, then at least give us some more “generic” aircraft. I mean we don’t even have a generic helicopter.

is there meanwhile any fix, in order to display helicopters of other players in MP mode as helicopters instead of planes?

Unfortunately not. So far, owning the aircraft AND owning the livery the other person is using is the only sure way of being able to see their aircraft correctly.

Yep you have the best chance having that but I’ll also add that sometimes you even need to actually be in the same aircraft and not just have it. The Bell 407 suffers with this. The whole model matching thing needs a revamp and reflects really poorly on this title.

I remember in the first days of the game, the model matching works fine, but in the last months it becomes more and more worst.
Yesterday my friend and I made a short trip with default MSFS planes, and saw different airplanes for each other. (Xbox Series X)
Please fix this.
