You can clearly see another player in the background with the F-35, which I have installed.
Also, before this, I was at LAX trying out another F-18 livery and had seen another player in an A320 with 4simmers’ Southwest Airlines livery. Completely different aircraft, yet no issues.
If you’re flying the Cabri G2, you can see other players flying the 407.
Under certain conditions I have yet to figure out, I guess it’s fair to say things aren’t as bad as they used to be.
I tend to agree with your statement that “things” are not as bad as they used to be, however, if one is flying with “Only” the PC core sim with NO addons, other players may still appear as an “unmatched” aircraft model or no model at all. I would never see a F35 or a Huey because they are not modeled in my sim.
Model matching, as long as you own the other plane, is generally pretty good.
IMHO, the other model matching hasn’t improved much at all. I think it’s more of a case of more and more planes being available via the marketplace than ever before when previously they were only available from 3rd party sites. More people are buying them, so they’re now seeing the correct models where previously they’d see some oddball matchup.
It’s more likely third party developers start filling the ICAO codes correctly if these information match you will see the correct aircraft, if they left some of the values blank it choses whatever has two engines and has the “generic” flag.
I suspect you are exactly correct.
When MSFS is set up to only see the correct model (if not already in the core sim) by purchasing the aircraft from the marketplace, well, that gives MS more $input$ . Doubt they would want to provide or inject model descriptions and keep them up to date for free when they can get more $input$ from the marketplace.
3rd Party Devs need to provide a basic model of their aircraft that can be seen by everyone, whether we own that aircraft/skin or not. Shouldn’t matter if we own a particular aircraft/skin or not, it should display correctly in the Sim.
What are we going to see when helicopters start selling, but we don’t have them in our library? Maybe an A-320 hovering around…
I see things like that now. I suspect it is because I have ZERO addons… A community folder that is empty. I have lots of A/C in the core sim to discover. I do not see the need to buy addons just yet.
So, I see single engine A/C zipping across the airport at near super sonic speed on occasion along with some “floating aircraft” at times.
