What is everyone’s thoughts so far, any improvements?
From my short experience it was actually worse on Series X and have even more invisible planes than normal. Still have issues with 3rd party and all of the Asobo defaults. Im actually not sure if Ive ever had any of the Asobo planes show up. The DC-3 is one I see quite a bit and have never had the model appear.
Reinstalling everything to see if that makes any difference and will report back.
Oh ■■■■, thank you for the info. Did the devs make a statement anywhere? Finding any info on it is almost impossible. Honestly, after playing some tonight the model matching on Xbox actually feels worse than before, couldnt get anything to match.
In one of the early beta versions (back in February?) every plane was presented as a C172, so, it got way worse before getting to where it is now - but on Xbox I’ve seen almost no model matching at all.
When i played last night, I was surrounded by Typhoons and F35’s and they were all what appeared to be Beechcrafts. I think at this point i may genuinely just turn multiplayer off.
Hey @dga711,
I must admit I’m a bit devastated to read your statement.
The model/livery matching on xbox was a topic i spent considerable hours testing during the SU15 betas.
Do you know which beta build it was pulled from? And where did the information that it was withdrawn come from?
I never saw it in any of the changelogs.
Since I hit the road some weeks ago I didnt get a chance to try the last few beta builds nor the final release yet. So my personal experience is not completely up to date:
My multiplayer (MP) modelmatching experience is limited. But my impression is that MP model matching on xbox is identical to standard AI model matching on xbox:
Any MP/AI traffic will show up as either of a handfull Microsoft/Asobo models. No 3rd party models are used by the default engine for MP/AI traffic.
SU14 had more or less the little GA single and twin prop planes, the generic pointy-nose airliner, A380 and Asobo’s A320.
SU15 betas added the Premium Deluxe B787 and in some beta builds also showed ATRs and perhaps a C206. @UnitedArt even saw an occational B747.
Don’t know yet what stayed in the final SU15 release.
Figther jets (G39) in SU14 appeared as the generic pointy-nose airliner on my xbox.
So if they are appearing as small GA aircraft in SU15, that would actually be a tiny improvement.
Still, fighterjets really would be better off represented by the Asobo F18 model.
Of course, if F35s would appear as F35 and Eurofightes as Eurofighters (assuming youve bought and installed those models on your xbox) that would be the best case. But this is unlikely to happen as long as Asobo uses representative model matching on xbox.
I just tried the game on my laptop and was actually stunned at how good the model matching is on PC. I had at least 4 F-35’s around me, F-18, Typhoon, Spitfire, DC-3 and a Volocity. All matching perfectly. Most of these planes ive never even seen in multiplayer on Xbox. Such a shame but clearly the memory requirements are just too intesnse for what the consoles have and Asobo most likely limited the functionality based on that. Im hoping to change to PC in a few months so this will hopefully no longer be an issue but unfortunate for all console users.
I wonder if 2024 will be any different but it wouldn’t surprise me if its the same. Im sure i saw in one of the wishlists that this was something they were not currently looking at but i may be wrong.
I havent had a chance to try yet but also wonder what matching is like if you are joined with a group.
Ive just tested in a group with my brother and basically confirmed that regardless of what planes you have installed even if Asobo defaults. Model matching on Xbox will not apply unless you are both in the same plane. A few season updates ago, possibly SU12 it wasnt like this. He could be in the F18 and I could be in the Darkstar and we would see one another. I would say the model matching on console is actually now the worst it has ever been on Xbox.
During beta testing when few where on the same MP as the beta tester, it seemed to work reasonably well, with the few one could see.
Now that everyone is on the same Release version of SU15, its true performance becomes more obvious.
Yesterday, I was greeted with more than 55 MP players in my list, with no way to reduce the one’s that were many 10’s of miles away.
The one’s close to me, showed up in incorrect planes, and when they were correct, many times thgeir internal model did not show.
Whatever Asobo did during the last few SU’s and especially SU15, does not seem to have improved thing, if anything they are worse, but in an ever changing list of MP aircraft, it’s difficult to really judge in a quantitative way, so one is left with “Impressions”.
No real details of technically what was or was not changed
I had hoped by now, MP would be able to display it’s list of players, in a more detailed form, including, Plane type, livery, and distance , together with any fall back livery or plane that one’s sim was forced to use, due to not having the other players specific plane.
Will 2024 be any better – not placing any real hopes there either.
I actually thought about this myself and whether the devs could reduce the number of visible planes or in some cases invisible… to improve the memory footprint more locally to the player which may assist in improving model matching but I would be surprised if the game didn’t already do this as there is surely no need to load planes into memory that are as you say 10’s of miles away.
Basically the whole thing comes down to recent memory optimizations that were made for Series X and S in SU14 and SU15 to improve SIM stability because too many people were getting CTD’s and black screen avionics. Memory prioritization needed to be re-allocated to the local aircraft rather than what it was set to before where scenery and multiplayer aircraft had the same prioritization level as the local aircraft causing the game to run out of memory especially with the more advanced WASM aircraft.
Its an almost impossible ask and no surprise the devs haven’t come up with a solution as the more complex systems have been added to the console versions over time.
Also, Vertical Scroll bar does not appear when you open the List, you have to mess about clicking all over the place, and then if you are lucky, the scroll bar may appears (PC)
Thanks for sharing – I obviously knew that , as seem in my Screen Shots, but I imagine many will find your workaround very useful.
But seeing a long list of names does not do much for you.. you already have a TOTAL # at the top of the windows.
What would make seeing ALL the players, would be seeing some INFORMATION about the, Plane, Livery, distance, altitude, speed.
and even more useful, does you system have that same plane, and or same livery !!
If I saw a whole lot of MP players, flying a plane that it indicated I did not have, then I might be far more interested in looking at that plane, with the thought of purchasing it.
Other wise, I have no way of knowing what that plane is, (unless I VERY DEEP DIVE into the Dev Console !!)
