My 3090 vs 4090 Results

Because with those high end cards you have to try and move the load onto the GPU which is why 4k Iin the sim) is pretty much essential to start seeing benefits. It may sound non-intuitive as, in most other games, we know if you reduce the resolution you will get higher frames. This is because the CPU can continue to feed the GPU the extra frames as it has the headroom because it isn’t being topped out - in the sim it is topped out (CPU bound) and so can’t feed the GPU any more

Interesting - I wonder if its the CPU performing better in the sim? It’s def interesting results for sure. Im going to screen cap my actual settings and post them here. Maybe I have something cranked that’s hurting me. Edit - Just realized you had everything else cranked to max settings already so maybe not.

I tested with TAA but what do you mean frame generation? Im not familiar with that setting.

It may depend on the situation. Even at 4k with my 4090 I am still cpu limited. There may be other variables accounting for the difference at 2k and 4k regarding the benchmarks such as real time traffic, terrain lod, Airport vehicle traffic, number of parked aircraft, vehicle traffic, airport vehicle traffic, all of which can vary. I have found these sliders drop my fps resulting in cpu limitation

If you have Sim update 11 and a 4090 with the latest drivers, you will be able to select TAA and Frame Generation on. It will effectively double your frame rate in TAA.

If you don’t see frame generation you either don’t have sim update 11 or you don’t have HAGS turned on.

Ah ok! Im not on SU11. After the issues I had coming out of Su10, I’m gonna stick with the standard issue for now lol. Su10 tempted me for the multi-monitor support, but for now Im happy. Overall even though the numbers aren’t high/higher, and in some cases less, I did a full proper flight last night and it was the smoothest it’s ever been.

You’ve got to let me know the performance of that 13900k when you get it.

But what the 4090 does for VR feels just like magic :star_struck:.

Ohhhh i think the new 4090 is the best

Here’s the thing. Why would anyone want to buy a high end video card only to come and use DLSS.

Unless I’m missing something, isn’t DLSS supposed to be sort of AI dumbing down graphics to a certain point where it is not that noticeable but still you see them. For example, DLSS in the 30 series cards when used, you do notice some degradation in graphics. This is where some of that extra fps gets achieved.

I’ve always spent that extra money on high end cards for 2 major things, Quality(priority) and Performance. The whole point is to get those extreme high graphics.

I’ve always thought of DLSS as a thing you would start using as your hardware starts to become old and obsolete as more games become more demanding.

I would not use DLSS in MSFS if it gave me 30 extra fps. If you’re already getting 60+ fps in TAA with 4090, then you are SET!!

because DLSS makes the game play even smoother and even more enjoyable in my experience. With the 4090 it’s spectacular

DLSS was initially introduced to let low-end or older GPUs run near 4K resolution without a massive performance hit. With DLSS3, it’s been expanded with frame insertion with further increases gains. I wouldn’t say it’s dumbing things down, but rather it’s an option that allows maximum performance for those that want it.

So there is no degradation of video quality with DLSS3/frame insertion? I understand the increase in performance, but I’d have to see no loss of video quality to believe it.

Some reviewers noted some artifacts with frame insertion that become visible below 30 fps, but largely absent at high framerates. With DLSS, there’s always some type of visual loss, but for most folks they either don’t notice it or prefer the higher performance.

Local microcenter here has them in stock a 4090 8gig and a 4090 10 gig for the same price. Now if only I had 2 grand to layout for equipment.

The 4090 only comes with 24gb.

thanks, because these show us the truth about the “new performance” of these 4090 in raw mode.

The big advertising is about DLSS 3.0 ( and cheat with FrameGen ) and nobody speak about that this card is in raw mode not a magic performance wonder , just like as allways where we get max 20-25% more fps with each new gpu gen. And thats the most important fact for all the games in the world ( 99.9% ) without DLSS.

“DLSS 3” is a very bad name for this technology. It have nothing to do to with DLSS 1.0 and 2.0 which are “Deep Learning Super Sampling”, and It’s confusing for user.
BTW It don’t appear as DLSS 3 in Cyberpunk, it’s appear as “DLSS Frame Generation” AFAIK, far better naming IMHO.

In MSFS it’s also called frame generation. You can even use it with TAA.

However, the frame generation is not great. Even at 75 FPS (150 frame generation) you’ll notice flickering and scrambling quite a bit when you move your head. At lower FPS it still stutters. It’s a weird feeling.

The FPS devmode counter will NOT change when frame generation is on so get ready for at least a handful of topics saying frame generation does nothing, but if you run capture frame X it will record the extra AI frames.

The card is awesome for VR. For 2D mode you still can’t TLOD above 300 with AI planes at KLAX in the Fenix. Your mainthread clearly said something about Sebastian’s family and he is going to keep taking it on it.

Well it is still using Deep Learning and Super Sampling. If people managed to get their head around SuperSampling then the new frame insertion will be a doddle (you would hope) after they have watched a couple of videos
