I’m running a 1080 graphics card and a 4k monitor. What resolution is the best to use? 4k because that’s the native resolution? Or 1440? 1080? I normally use 1440 without problems but can I get away with 4k?
How can we answer this? It’s your PC so why not just try it?
As with everything else, the resolution you choose will be whatever compromise between quality and performance suits your personal preferences the best.
I have the 1080Ti and a 4k monitor, and it can handle 4k no problem. I have also run 1440 very nicely, and now I run 1080p. At 4k I can get 40ish FPS consistently, and at 1440 I can get 60 FPS and enable vsync to eliminate tearing. At 1080p, it flies. Hope this helps.
Why to use high resolution when MSFS native resolution is 712p after SU5?
Have you been flying since Hotfix #2? Doesn’t sound like it.
Run at native 4K resolution. If you see that’s too heavy of a load for your GPU at your desired detail settings, use the Render Scaling slider to decrease the internal rendering resolution.
So if you want to run 1080p, for example, run native 4K and 50% resolution scaling. For 1440p, that’s roughly 75% scaling. As you move the scaling slider, it will show you want the render resolution is.
Good answer.
