Navigation lesson in FS tutorial which end of the airport to land on

I have been unable to land properly after flying to Flagstaff in the flight training lesson on Navigation (lesson 7.) It always says “you weren’t really supposed to land there”
How do you tell which end of the runway is the down wind end,so you can enter the flight pattern properly and land at the right end of the runway?

You should, in this case, land in the same direction you took off at.

Or if there is a windsock then that should be OK to use.

Unfortunately winds don’t affect the environment naturally so without a windsock or weather report it there isn’t a great way. One other way I do it though is to compare my ground-speed with my IAS. If ground speed is higher then I have a tail wind, it works OK but it isn’t optimal.

After some trial and error I found that you have to wait until you are told to do something in the Objectives Window before changing direction and then landing. Once I did that they showed completed.

I have tried several times to get past this lesson and get the same reply that you report. I’m on the correct runway and manage to land each time, not always spot on, but don’t understand what’s happening. It would be great if it told you exactly what you were doing wrong.

Somehow I managed that my landing was accepted by the instructor some months ago after having failed several times. Now I retried to get comfortable with my new honeycomb yoke and the problem starts again. Tried two times landed quite well but same story. Can’t remember what I did differently those days.
Any clue what could be wrong?
If you approach from Sedona, you should pass the runway left handed, turn into it and land, right? This is the 21. Don’t get what is meant with the downwind leg. Is it required to fly a straight approach? I mean after that long session, I just want to land quickly. Could it be that my final turn is too sharp?

Hi.
It’s probably nothing to do with your flying. What you have to do is follow the instructions to the letter.
If it asks you to go to a certain waypoint, do it. It’s a matter of ticking boxes for them. I found the same in another instruction tutorial on taking off in the Airbus 320. If it tells you to look at the thrust lever, do it.
You’ll find that your flying skills are perfectly adequate, but if you don’t follow their instructions you’ll fail.
I did the same as you several times before it clicked.
Good luck
