Navigraph breakthrough

Navigraph have just released this information “Our navdata development team recently had a breakthrough when investigating a number of approaches in MSFS 2020 that had a slightly misaligned ILS course. We are happy to announce that with Jeppesen data from Navigraph, all ILS approach courses are now aligned with the centreline, and identical to the Jeppesen charts. Courses for offset approaches LDA/IGS that were previously misaligned are now also correct.” Great news! Does this mean that the third party sceneries that I have uninstalled will work now if I reinstall them ?

Hi,
as a general rule of thumb  … this depends on the sceneries. When the sceneries use their own ILS information (included in their scenery), than our ILS information will be “overruled” because normally the sceneries have a higher priority as the navdata.

When a scenery designer haven´t included the ILS information or when you use only the stock sim, than the courses are absolutely correct, aligned with the centerline (when normal ILS) or IGS/LDA approaches a correct offset course.

Cheers,
Richard

Is there a way to get the navdata to overrule the ILS information that the scenery designer has implemented?

You just need to move the Navigraph folder to the end of the content.xml file - it’s what I do.

Absolutely correct, this is the only solution that the navdata has the highest priority.

Thanks for your input,
Richard

I shall do that. Thanks

So if I rename navigraph-navdata in the community folder to zznavigraph-navdata and make sure its the last file in that folder, it will absolutely override any add-on sceneries that have “misplaced” or errored their ILS data?

This is indeed GOOD NEWS – great job Navigraph !! :+1:

This is indeed a great breakthrough, thanks to Navigraph. There is mention of content.xml file AND changing the name of the Navigraph folder in the Community folder. I am easily confused so could someone please give baby steps on how to make sure that the Navigraph data has priority…Thanks.

I think the best way is to move the line with Navigraph data in the content.xml file to the last line of the file.
But if, later, you add an other airport scenery to your community folder, this airport (the line in the content.xml file) will be below the Navigraph data and this airport will have priority on nav data.
So, again, just check the content.xml fil and edit to replace the navigraph data below the file.

Edit: Or, if you rename your airport add-on like i do… Airport-“ICAO-code”-“Name/city”, you can just before launch MSFS, delete the content.xml file, so MSFS will recreate this file with alphabetical order, and the Navadata will be below all the airport file.

Please DON’T rename the package folder. This is not really necessary and produce un-supported situations in the Navigraph Navdata Center. To move the navigraph-package on the last line in the content.xml file is enough.

We will discuss this internally, if we do this automatically via our Navigraph Navdata Center in the future. There are lot of pro’s and con’s …

Yes, automaticaly, or, an option to check on/off in navdata center ? :man_shrugging:

As it would be nice to have this done automatically, other devs could also adjust the content.xml file to their needs. Then we again have a situation that doesn’t work.

Right, but when you have a better solution than let us know please. Without the help from Asobo/MS I don’t have one.

So, you are welcome to tell us your solution.

Cheers
Richard

Maybe you can change your addon to allow for renaming? Then users can then rename it by themselves to an appropriate name so it is sorted to the end. Don’t know if this is possible, though.

I don’t think so.
Renaming the navadata folder will “break” the update plugin from navigraph (it have to check for a specific folder).
And if you add an airport scenery later, the new scenery will be always below in the content.xml file, unless you delete this file and let msfs recreate it in alphabetical order…

Renaming the folder doesn’t work like how it used to in X-plane. With the content.xml new content is appended to the end, the only way folder renaming would work is if the content.xml was cleared of all entries on launch and then let it rebuild.

Hi Richard, am I correct that if I don’t use any community folder add-ons (other than the navigraph), that I don’t need to move the file? I have bought a few in game Marketplace airport add-ons, but not many.
THanks,

In the content.xml file, the “official” folder is above the “community” folder, so, the navdata will be below the add-on from official folder.
