When I’m too lazy to fly my simulator, I enjoy PC plane watching at London’s Heathrow Airport in real time. The airport is my preferred location for plane watching and I most often turn to a great daily live video whose camera is situated just north of the EGLL 27R threshold. I get to watch westerly or easterly operations, depending on time of day.
This morning, I started MSFS2020 and spawned at EGLL. I moved my view atop the tower and started FSLTL. I watched operations for a while then I spotted Singapore flight 308, an Airbus A380, approach and land on 27R at 14.33UTC. I had Plan-G open and I saw the same AI landing on the same runway at the exact same time. I was watching FlightRadar24 all along and I saw Singapore 308 land on 27R 4 minutes later in that app.
Can anyone explain the 4-minute discrepancy? Does FSLTL time ever match real life time?
Please feel free to tag your post with either msfs-2020 or msfs-2024 if you would like to discuss a specific sim.
In FS2024 this would soon become boring, seeing one after the other A320 in Airbus house colours pass by and American airlines parked on the ground in Europe.
FSLTL takes the live flight data from FR24 but the sim controls the traffic, so please do not expect a 1:1 location replica of the real world as there are too many sim factors at play (and the aforementioned Asobo AI bugs as well).
This can and often does include some time lag on the data. Generally, we can get close, but not spot on.
Not sure what you mean. The variety of liveries in FSLTL is excellent. Yes, lots of Airbus 320s but plenty of A330s and A350s too. A220s and Embraer 195s are often seen as well. Many Boeings, lots of 787s but plenty of 777s and 767s as well. Not too many 737s at Heathrow, however. Just a great app.
This makes sense. Thanks for explaining this GBTAW. The time differential is close enough! I’m amazed at the variety of means we have at our disposal nowadays. Not only for watching aircraft but for flying them, even if virtually. Cheers.
I don’t know if FSLTL works in FS2024. I’m still on FS2020 and it works so well for me that I’m on the fence regarding FS24. I’ll probably get the new sim but its teething troubles are keeping me on 2020 for a few months. I’m waiting to see if there’s finally a tower view and fly-by views would be welcome too. If I hear Tower View has been re-instated, I’ll buy immediately.
