Hello,
I am looking to change my processor (R7 1800x) which is starting to show signs of weakness on FS when flying with airliners (Fenix, PMDG essentially, a bit of CRJ) at large airports. I heard the R7 5800X3D is one of the best CPUs for MSFS. I can find around 400€ around here.
How big will be the difference ? with my 1070ti, since I’m going to have to wait a bit before I get the money for a new graphics card.
I also want to change my GPU some months after, I really don’t know what to turn to. My maximum budget is around 700€. Nvidia seems to abuse its prices. Am I expecting a hypothetical 4060? If I take AMD, it would be cheaper (I found 6700 XTs around 500€) but I’ll probably have to change my PSU.
I mostly play at 1080p, I’m not ruling out going to 1440p, but I definitely don’t think I’m going to go to 4K.
I also forgot to specify that I will be upgrading to 32 GB of RAM
The 5800X3D still performs better than the 7950X and 13900k for MSFS, just to put that into comparison. You’ll have a significant increase in performance if largely mainthread limited.
Thank you for your answers
I saw on my motherboard manufacturer’s site that my board is compatible and I would just have to update the BIOS. Should I just install the latest version or all previous versions and then the latest version?
After switching to a 5800X3D, won’t my 1070ti limit my new processor? Sorry if that sounds silly, I don’t know much about “Limited by mainthread” or “Limited by GPU” things. Or even having “Limited by mainthread” I would still have good performance?
The 1070ti should be pretty good at 1080p. The nice thing is it’s easier to turn down graphics settings to improve FPS and harder to “turn down” CPU tasks to improve FPS.
