Need help with mouse in cockpit

Help! Help! Help! Absolute newbie, beginner, cannot get to first base with Microsoft Flight Simulator Standard 40th Anniversary Edition. I cannot do the most basic functions - like SET THE PARKING BRAKE (on or off). When I point with the cursor and hold left click the message says “Press ? to use the control.” Except that the ? is enclosed is a box with a dotted outline. All I’m trying to do is start with a Cessna 152. Don’t want to fly a 747. I do have a yoke but I can’t get anywhere just using the mouse and keyboard. REALLY need basic WINDOWS 11 keyboard commands.

From the start screen go to Options/General Options/Accessibility and change Cockpit Interaction System to Legacy.
Regards.

Big Thank You. I know, to many it seems such a small thing but I couldn’t find anything on line that started at this basic level. I really appreciate your help.

I can’t figure out how to post - moderator adjusted my first attempt and said I would be able to post but either don’t know how or not allowed.

My question for today:I am new to MSFS - I have the anniversary edition. Starting with just mouse and keyboard. Have set legacy controls. I have followed the start procedure as outlined in several places (probably for 2020). The engine starts, get to about 700 rpm and then dies slow down to 0 rpm. HELP if you can please

Flight Training would be a good place to start learning how to use the sim:

I have been doing the training. I have not found anything that talks about actually starting the plane. I have watched several YouTube videos on Cessna 152 engine start in MSFS and believe I should be getting a successful engine start and idle. But I have the problems described in my original post - starts, RPM rises to 700 and then immediately fades back and dies.

I HAVE decided that using only the keyboard and mouse is just not feasible for anything resembling a real flight experience because it seems like I would have to memorize for instant recall several hundred multi-key commands. I have a Thrustmaster TCA yoke and my next move will be to see if I can understand how to map those key sequences to the various buttons on the yoke. Also have the pedals to set up.
