Sim worked fine this morning, went to start up and get a “needs update” box.
I hope picture will show issue, if I did things right,
That is a standard message if you do need an update to the public release. That message will also come up if you have joined the Xbox Insider program.

I have not joined any xbox program, sim is on a desktop.
If your Xbox app shows no updates or downloading progress, try restarting your device. As you have the MS Store version, MSFS has dependencies on the MS Store, Windows updates and the Xbox app.
After a restart of your device, check Windows updates, MS Store updates before launching/checking for MSFS updates in the Xbox app.
