It is exactly that - the world update has resulted in different textures for Ireland which generally are of poorer quality. It was immediately obvious post the update that they had changed as a field next to my most used airport was now green rather than brown!
This update isn’t about Australia though, is it? It’s about the UK & Ireland. England, which is roughly the same size as Ireland, gets way more additions than Ireland…
Ireland land mass 69000 sq km. England land mass 129000 sq km, so…
I’m guessing west of the Irish Sea, 53% is classed as ‘roughly the same as’ then
I see now.
True, it’s not about Australia.
However, my overarching point is I’m simply providing a context. That context being that Ireland’s update will contain significant improvements (as compared to it’s original/default map) as opposed to many other countries (albeit it seems as opposed to it’s neighbour England) who at present require a significant datamap update.
Although it seems those who live in Ireland and those who have flown it in MSFS consistently are stating that the update has regressed in quality as opposed to vanilla/default. That is concerning, and I sure wouldn’t want to see that occur for Australia.

Ireland is roughly the same size of England, so…
England 130,279 km²
Ireland 70,273 km²
Thats not quite 54%
From a fellow Irishman
Is norman a fisherman then, d’ya think?
‘Oh thats about right so it is.’
(Ya wont get the joke if you don’t watch the news)
Let’s not forget northern Ireland in all of this
Even adding in the North doesn’t bring it close. 84k v 130k
The new data for Ireland is in general a huge improvement and I’m really glad they managed to obtain it in time for the update!
Not sure how that can be seen as something negative? World Updates will always be dictated by what new data they can get, as it should be. To hold it of in order to add a few more POI would’ve been a poor decision, so glad they did it this way.
Hello,
There is a difference between United Kingdom and England.
You should know what you mean. England is not so large as the UK.
Is the thread getting a bit pedantic?
Surely it is more about content improvement within Ireland and the latest update rather than sq km.
What I am saying is, Ireland does not nearly get enough attention as the other countries in the update. I’m not sure what there is to argue about that? It clearly is not an “Ireland” update if it only receives a few extra additions.
73 points of interest in the update. 4 in Ireland. An island with a population of 30 got more airports than Ireland!
Ireland will get 1 new POI update every Saint Patrick’s Day…I feel that’s fair enough.
Now look, let’s get it sorted once and for all.
England is part of the United Kingdom, the full title being The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is the island the English live on, together with the Welsh and the Scots (and the Cornish). Great Britain being the biggest island in the British Isles. Ireland doesn’t have a name, it’s just another island in the British Isles and nowhere near as big as Great Britain…itself, by both name and nature, great.
From the beginning of the mention of world update 3, this was to be a UK update, then along the way Asobo said they would add The republic of Ireland if they could get the data.
Seems they pretty much delivered what they said they would. The aternative being to stick with just a UK update as originally planned and update the Republic of Ireland some time later in the queue of countries waiting around the world once more accurate data becomes available.
What did they add to the Republic of Ireland? Two castles, a building in Dublin and a bridge in the south east? Not exactly a massive amount of POI’s! Not one single airport. Add to that the flap issues! I pointed out one of the biggest missing POI in relation to Dublin during Alpha test but no joy in getting it included even though Poolbeg chimneys were in FSX. Am I disappointed? Yes for Ireland but at least from what I’ve seen so far in southern UK the office block buildings in the countryside have disappeared.
Stay safe.
The office blocks haven’t gone for me. A lot of them have changed to the new dark office block so they don’t stand out as much.
Yeah ok. But this wasn’t “World Update Australia and New Zealand”. So let’s talk about that again when their WAS an update to Down Under.
IMHO Ireland gut shortchanged compared to the UK.
If you look at the quality of the mesh in Cornwall, where you can even see the Bedruthan Steps and easily recognise Kynance Cove the difference to country Kerry up to County Galway is quite apparent. The coastal regions are far less defined and the afore mentioned Cliffs of Moher are positively awful. Not as awful as Dover before the update, but still.
Skellig Michael is also only a few unrecognisable lumps in the sea. All quite rounded and undefined. No sharp edges etc.
But could it be the the most recent data available for MSFS for Ireland as compared to the UK is of a lower standard due to age of the available data ( ie older)?
This is what we’ve seen for Aus. We’re the “poorer” cousins of the western world and as such won’t receive the “full” treatment.
