There is no progress from ‘Checking for Updates’ phase when I start the app. I’m stuck there…

In my case, the problem disappeared with turning off in-game motion reprojection for vr. I guess it conflicted with Oculus ASW and brought a endless loop when the game was being loaded. Oculus ASW seems more stable and effective than a similar in-game option.
