Release notes indicate high idle power issue was fixed but my PC showed no change (pulls 95w at idle). I have a RX 7900 XTX with 2 monitors: 1x 4k@120Hz and 1x 1080p@60Hz.
Ran several stress tests along w/MSFS and all seemed good. Board power used under stress was down a little along with temps so seemed more efficient.
I’d be interested to know if anyone else has their high idle power problem fixed with this driver.
Related.
New drivers probably won’t do anything for Menu Screens, as this is msfs specific.
Use Low Power Mode if you want to lower power while in menus.
The high idle power issue has nothing to do with the sim. My 7900 XTX uses about 95w just sitting on the Win 11 home screen and nothing else running. This has been a known issue documented in the Adrenalin driver release notes. In this latest driver the release notes list this issue as fixed but it’s not.
Curious question. What do these driver updates actually do or bring to the table when using MSFS? DX12 is still in beta so I’m not seeing anything being gained from constantly updating drivers. Still runs the same?
This driver brings a nice boost in VR performance on 7900XTX. Great so far. You have to use DX12 with these cards in VR. In DX11 you get heavy rubberbanding.
Provide hope that you can squeeze a couple more fps out of MSFS
On a more serious note, AMD are still optimizing their drivers for the 7000 platform of gpu’s and fixing other various bugs. As I mentioned above, with the latest drivers I can see that my 7900 XTX is a little more efficient in that I get 3-4 degrees less heat doing the same thing as before in MSFS as the card was requiring slightly less clock speed.
Im using a 7900xtx with now a pimax 8kx and its fantastic. Everything on max settings with resolution to native (100%) even sometimes supersampling a bit in pimax.
So yeah, for me absolutely zero issues with 7900xtx. An amazing card for performance in both msfs and dcs vr.
