New build for fs24

Hi all, I ask your opinion on my new build.

Very short term goal: not to have problems with stutters & co, and fixed fps at 40 on 2020 with ultra/high settings, aig/fslt traffic and a320 fbw.

Long term goal: move on to 2024 when it will have become decent (I’d say after next summer) and without graphic/performance compromises.

New components already purchased:

Cpu AMD 9800X3D
Mobo MSI X-870 GAMING PLUS
Ram CORSAIR DOMINATOR TITANIUM 64GB 6000 MHZ CL30
Ssd Samsung 9100 pro 1TB
Cooler ARCTIC LIQUID FREEZER III

Components inherited from old PC
PSU SilverStone SST-ST85F-PT Strider Platinum 850W
VGA PNY RTX 3080 XLR8 Gaming Epic-X RGB 10GB
HDD Samsung SSD 960 EVO M.2 500 gb + OCZ Vertex 3 250gb (both for storage)
Monitor MSI Optix MAG241C 144hz FHD 1080 resolution
Case COOLER MASTER MasterBox Lite 5 CASE

Evaluations based on your recommendations

2K or 4K MONITOR (don’t have big space for something higher than 32’')?

At the moment a new vga is out of my economic reach (nvidia 5000 series especially), but even on the monitor I think I will wait 2/3 months.

Further reccomendations:
I’ve read some issues with bios for msi x870 mobo, particularly about overclocking and memory settings to 6.000 mhz? Do you have any suggestions on that?

Looking for your advices!

Thx

  1. Not necessary to go X870 if you can find a good B650E MB for less (Unless you absolutely need Wifi 7 and USB4) Its the same chipset and if you do need USB4 you can find that on a B650E ASROCK Taichi Lite.
  2. A 1TB TB9100 pro is not the best way to go. Your money is better spent on a 2TB WDBlack SN850x. Nothing is using all of the available bandwith of PCIE gen 4 much less gen 5
  3. The 10GB 3080 is going to be marginal for 2k and even worse for 4k .. I would recommend trying to acquire some 16gb card to give you some breathing room. I also would not advise trying for 2k unless you have a card offering over 16GB of Vram.

Just my opinions

Ouch, you ruined my day!
Already bought x870 and 9100 1TB…
Regarding 3080, unfortunately now I cant’ afford spending 1k or more for 4080/4090 or 5xxx. Must wait few months for that, hopefully.
Anyway, thx for your feedback

I have a 3080 10GB card running on this spec with quantity 2 - 1440p (2560 x 1440 @ 165 Hz) monitors with G-SYNC. I am able to run the sim on mostly HIGH settings.. ULTRA clouds.. MEDIUM texture but with TLOD 200 and OLOD 150.

With Frame Gen, the 3080 will more than suffice unless you need all settings running on ULTRA.

I get smooth performance and I only use Free Flight.

My spec:
Microsoft Windows 11 Professional (x64), Version 24H2, Build 26100.3624
Intel(R) Core™ i9-10900K CPU @ 3.70GHz
RAM: 64.0 GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz
Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 10240 MB GDDR6X w. Game Ready Driver - 572.42
850 Watt Power Supply

Mine as well (mostly…)

  1. While the B650 motherboards are fine, I’d go with a good X670E motherboard for the additional PCI lanes. My Gigabyte X670E AORUS Pro X has WiFi 7 onboard, and it has all the other features I need (no USB4, but I don’t need that. I paid $256.00 on an Amazon Black Friday deal. I have a WiFi 7 router, so it makes sense for me to have that feature.
  2. I agree. PCI 5 SSD is not necessary. To be blunt, it’s a waste of money that could be better spent on the 2TB drive you suggested (which is exactly the drive I have.)
  3. 100% agreed.

Everything else looks good.

As for the monitor…

OLED or a good LED w/HDR1000.

I have a 32" LED HDR1000 monitor (properly called VESA DisplayHDR 1000) and it’s much much much better than my old HDR10 monitor (properly called VESA DisplayHDR 400.) It wasn’t cheap, and an OLED would probably be just as good, and a better value.

I had an RTX 3070ti and it was absolutely fine at 2K in MSFS 2020. In the older sim the CPU is more important, so I would expect the 3080 to be great with 2K and maybe even 4K.

MSFS 2024 puts a bit more of the onus on the GPU, but if you don’t mind using DLSS or frame generation, the 3080 will still be OK for FHD or 2K.

If you can find a cheap 27 or 32in 2K, that will tide you over very happily until you cam change the GPU and then the screen at a later date.
I have a 32in 4K OLED which is an enormous improvement, but using it with MSFS 2024 makes the RTX 4090 work quite hard.

Probably that will be my choice. 27 2k monitor and next year a new gpu - don’t know yet if nvidia 5xxx or amd 9xxx - with a more powerful psu (1000/1200 w).
Thx
