New computer install problems

Brand new computer… Windows updated… Xbox app updated.. MS store updated…

When installing from XBox “my library” (selecting premium deluxe).. it begins a 1-of-3 install, but only installs the first (aprox 2.1GB)… then nothing. It shows MSFS installed, even shows up in the Windows apps.. but will not run… or do anything really..

Uninstalled and tried again, several times… This is really weird..

Take a look at this checklist. Hopefully it has your solution.

Thanks for the response…

While it wasn’t a loading problem (install problem) .. one item on that checklist, solved the problem… so far.

The install is now going as expected.. Hopefully it will run/load when complete..

It’s a several hour install (50mbps Internet)…

So I’ll report tomorrow…

I had a perfectly good, i9 12900 / RTX 3080ti / 32MB of RAM… and promised myself, if I have to reinstall, I’ll get a new computer (i9 14900 / RTX 4090 / 64MB RAM)..

I’m hoping for marked improvement in performance..

I hope you get the improvement you’re hoping for.
And for VR and multi-monitor 4K setup I think you would (the 4090 is a huge improvement for that.)

Of course it depends what you mean by ‘marked improvement,’ but I suspect vast improvement for those who’ve invested in top-of-the-line Intel and AMD CPU’s won’t come until FS2024 is released. The current sim code simply doesn’t take advantage of anything but core frequency and L3 cache. Having 8 cores, 16 cores, or 24 cores doesn’t seem to matter much.

Hopefully FS2024 will unlock the power of CPU’s like yours, and make my lowly 5800X3D perform even better. :slightly_smiling_face:

but ! 5800x3d is a solid CPU for MSFS

Time being correct on a system can have a huge impact. There’s a bunch of security bits and pieces that are part of authentication that require the clocks of the systems talking to each other to be within some number of milliseconds to work.

Network time protocol is what tries to keep everyone in step but if for some reason one system hasn’t or can’t get a good time set, the communications that rely on it will fail.

Glad you got it sorted.

With immediate testing, performance is slightly better… I’m enthusiastic, because even with an i9 12900/3080ti, I had a few settings dialed back a tad.. (running 2K on a 5120X1440 49” curved monitor with TrackIr)..

This machine isn’t even breaking a slight sweat.. barely warm, so I’ve got room to raise those settings…

Keep it that way and it’ll last a lot longer. You don’t need everything set at Ultra for things to look good. For instance, setting Buildings to Ultra instead of High only affects building so far away you can’t tell the difference. The only possible exception to that is if you’re doing a low-altitude speed run and rapidly approaching structures don’t have time to load before you’re right on top of them. The video below is long, and some things currently in the sim aren’t covered, but it’s still a great visual reference to see what you want to raise and what you can keep low to save resources. Have pencil, paper, and coffee ready before you start watching…

You can also have a look at my profile for my settings list to give you some hints.

I watched that video a while ago, and learned a lot from it.
