I heard Jorg say something about new data from the EU which is implemented for the World Update countries, which gives a higher resolution. This sounds really amazing! There was a map shown with colors which displayed what resolution is used for different parts of Europe. I am wondering what this means for the world graphics/representation in the sim.
Because this data is available for the whole EU, does this mean the whole EU will be updated to this high resolution soon?
WIll this also translate to better graphics of the world in MSFS 2024?
Does someone have comparison pictures of a place on earth with lower and higher resolution? To see how much of an impact this makes?
Does this also give a more realistic representation of the builded environment?
No, thats where I hear about it, my questions are about whats not in that video.
What does higher resolution data look like in the sim, compared to lower resolution?
Since the data they talk about is for the whole European Union, and the World Update is only about Switzerland, Austria and Germany, whats happening with the rest of the European Union? Do the rest of those countries also get the higher resolution now? Or only if those countries get another world update in the future? Or will it be implemented in msfs 2024?
IIRC from watching it, they were describing getting ahold of the data through a public data publishing program in the European Union, but they were specifically talking about data that Germany had put together and was publishing.
So as similar data sets become available in other countries they should be able to get ahold of them similarly, over time, but I don’t think they’ve got like EU-wide coverage ready to go.
Ive rewatched it, but he says its from the EU, and shows an example of Germany, but it doesnt seem like only Germany has been made available from the EU. Seems like there should be more.
But what does it look like when flying low? How much more detail do you get at 1m resolution, compared to lower level? Any images to show this?
MSFS World Updates require a lot more work than just raw Aerials & DEM data from some external source.
You can check for yourself by picking a spot from the maps shown in the DevStream that will get a resolution boost with WU18, then go there in MSFS today and take lots of screenshots. Next Thursday you can then compare directly the same place in WU18.
