New into microphones in flight sim - basic question

dear all, now that Beyond ATC is now available i am starting to look into options of using a microphone. I am currently using a Poly Bt700. However, i am finding myself almost screaming in the mic in order to be understood. Is there a workaround to this? my output is set to 100%…

Screaming in your microphone is a bad idea. Just for the fun of it, record it and listen it back. You’ll hear quite a noise and no understandable words. That’s why pilots and ATC speak slow and clear. So, start to check your windows microphone sound settings and test them. Next test the microphone in MSFS. Check the sound settings in the options menu of MSFS.
Good luck.

Are you sure you have the mic plugged into the mic input (pink) on the computer?
There’s also a line input, and it has different impedance, which will definitely affect how the mic sounds.

Hi there, thanks for your feedback, i am using a USB headset with integrated microphone. I though this should be enough but maybe is not the case…

My Corsair headset (with microphone) uses a USB dongle for RF connectivity through iCue. I had some problems with it, but an email to the manufacturer’s tech support gave me a procedure to update the headset’s firmware, which solved the problem.

Maybe your headset could benefit from that as well? Just thinking out loud here…

I have quite a collection of headphones, a bit of a hobby.
Among the best:

  1. wireless:
Bose 700 for noise cancellation, comfort and top notch mic input, can also be used in a professional environment (zoom calls, etc)
(can still be found in some stores but replaced by the more recent Bose Ultra)
Budget friendly alternative: SoundCore Q35/Q45, excellent sound, good enough ANC for the price, mic performs well in quiet environments, won’t last as long as the pricier options.
  2. wired:
Sennheiser GSP 600, top notch passive isolation, quite bulky from the outside, but very comfortable to use and excellent mic. Requires a powerful sound output on the motherboard or external amp to shine.
A tiny apple USB dongle dac or similar can do the job for gaming sessions.
