Geez. That long … I was expecting them to hit stores within the week.
I’m guessing COVID might push that out even longer. I might have to squeeze a bit more life out of my GTX1080.

Pretty sure you wouldn’t be able to take full advantage of that 3090 @ present, with that ongoing cpu usage issues. The world thread would hold that card back pretty sure…
I doubt that MSFS at this point will fully be able to utilise an RTX3090 however with my experience with P3D V5 (DX12) - Looking toward the future, I don’t think 10GB VRAM will be sufficient and would expect a minimum of 16GB in any new card.
My observations from P3D were that out of 7.1GB VRAM available, I’d often sit on 5.5-6.2GB
I also run at 4K resolution which is extremely taxing on my current setup.
But it looks so pretty - 4k -
To my knowledge the peak ram usage someone discovered on a Radeon VII was around 12/13GB… for now, that all relies on the “drawing circles/distances” around the plane. Hopefully the viewing distance scales properly with the amount of RAM you throw @it even above 10GB.
I will go with the 3080, if it is within the rumored specs+performance range and the 20GB update later down the upgrade street…
I see you try the 10900k, so best perspectives to run MSFS @ its best. Let us know how that works out regarding performance.
I am also considering an upgrade.
Currently having the following setup:
I7 8700k
RTX 2080 TI (11GB)
I always experience stutters when CPU limited. I am also often GPU limited, but surprisingly without these big stutters.
For now I guess it makes more sense for me to upgrade the CPU to the I9 10900K doesn´t it?
Regards
Alternatively Intel’s No.2 gaming flavor: I7 10700k runs nearly the same single core performance, has the 16 thread recommended for ultra and runs much cooler then the 10900k, should maybe more then enough. Or wait for Zen3 and its magic, possibly!
I’m moving up to the 10900K from 8700K.
If I had more patience and foresight, I’d have waited for the 11th Gen Intel processors but recently bought 64GB of DDR4 and wasn’t sure if the 11th Gens would support it.
R5 3600 will give you best value for the money. You will need new RAM either way,
Did you already test the new setup with the 10900k?
Would be interested how much it improves the performance?
Thanks and regards
Nah. I haven’t received it yet. My order was only dispatched about 12hrs ago.
I’m also ordering a new case which is on back order.
Expected delivery is around the 19th of September for the case — by which point I shouldn’t have too long to wait for the 3090, hopefully.
Anyone considering 2700X? Older gen but in my country priced around same as 3600.
Was running i5 7600K 32Gb 2133 ram and a 2080s which ran pretty well at medium high settings but did microstutter with a few slideshow moments. I upraded to i7 10700K with 3200 ram (32gb) and it is smooth as silk virtually no stutters and no turbo boost at the moment. 1Tb ssd.
Not an ideal situation.
Going Ryzen will provide the best performance per dollar, but re-using the 2400MHz ram will cripple it.
Ryzen likes 3200-3600MHz ram, will work with slower but at a significant loss of performance.
If you had an 8th gen CPU id say hunt for a 9700K on sale but that’s not an option either.
You really need a new platform, not really any way to escape it.
On the up side 32GB kits of DDR3-3200 are very cheap right now.
Unless you have the money to go right up to the top end of Intel’s range I’d highly recommend Ryzen.
3600, 3700X or 3900X (or XT variants) depending on budget.
A B550 board or an X570 board if it’s the same price or cheaper (often the case at the moment).
All that said, we’re only a few weeks away from AMD’s official Zen3 announcement / release.
If you wait for this 3 good things are likely to happen.
Any of the above is positive, making buying now a not so great idea.
In your position all I’d suggest is to back off settings a little, clean/optimize the OS and terminate as much background ■■■■ as possible, then wait it out a month and see what happens.
Do you have the virtueel memory setting in the options.
Also when have 32gb memory, its looks you need to set this also.
it works by me.
Might help put a picture in your mind.
Got a 2070 super two days ago, knowing I could not buy anything faster or would need to upgrade my Ryzen 3600.
Updated my B450 motar chipset drivers.
Running mostly ultra at 1080p.Its mostly a smooth experience everywhere.And looking stunning.Replaced rx570 8gb.
Mainthread limited but drops the odd frame.Looks fantastic and 95% smooth.Server ping is only issue in UK now, that’s the 5%.
So you are spot on.B550 and Ryzen 3700 would be perfect or Intel equivalent for the 2070 super and give you a bit of headroom.Sim installed on Nvme M2 on its own.
