NEW Nvidia Drivers: GeForce WHQL 516.94 - Nvidia has issued a security warning for it's GPU drivers on 4/8/2022)

@TheAviator3506 while I am certainly intrigued and interested in seeing what Windows 11 has to offer, I was under the impression that Windows 10 was going to be the last version ever, and that future updates would just come in the form of patches and inline upgrades.

Now, I don’t fault MS at all for wanting to get paid periodically for all the work they put into the product, after all they are a for profit company, but it seems to me that could have been done by making some future “update” into a payware only one. But I guess that’s really no different than creating the same update and calling it “Windows 11”, and maybe avoids those who would complain (and loudly) about paying for “just a windows update”. And you know there would have been a lot of those types of folks.

Everybody wants something for nothing, and I’m certainly no exception to that, but I also understand people wanting to feed their families in exchange for the work that they do. That’s one reason I am so vehemently opposed to software piracy in general. Sure, it may not “cost” the producers anything to create another digital copy, that’s absolutely true, but if the ultimate price is that some programmer can’t afford to feed their kids, well, that’s a problem.

Try new windows update KB5003690

We fixed an issue in a small subset of users that have lower than expected performance in games after installing KB5000842 or later.

I had a similar issue with again random reboots ( not in game, just desktop, etc. ) and seems again fixed with KB4023057 ( not 100% sure, because per desc it should have nothing to do with it ) ( I said “again”, because I had these issue with former windows 10 release already ).

No way, really?!

I thought that was just going to be a new permanent “feature” with the lack of progress on it!

Hi Micha, I thought I was really in trouble with the BSOD, I must hand it to Microsoft because I used to get way too many BSOD with Win 7!

Here are the driver notes. This is a direct link to the Nvidia Driver .pdf notes.

Charles.

Uncheck “Automatically restart”

I was bit more relaxt because I know these issue from e.g. win 2004 ( somewhere is a MS thread about ). But it is not exact same as yours.. I had reboots simple on Desktop, doing nothing, or open Explorer, or looking YT videos. Absolut random and never while playing game.

I’am not realy sure whether the old MS Win bug was back or whether simple one of the newer nvidia drivers fixed it.. but since the mentioned windows updated the issue was gone. The former nvidia driver update was near by, who knows

good idea

Updated to the latest NVIDIA Drivers today (471.11). Restarted Computer. Ran MSFS2020. CTD.

I tried again with another CTD.

After reverting to the previous drivers (466.77), game loaded to load screen.

Annoying, but for those with these issues, try reverting drivers for now.

I still have this weird issue where the music cuts in and out while loading at the Cessna flying the river at the mountain, and I think it’s about to crash, but it didn’t for me.

Let’s go Asobo. Help us out!

No problem with PC or FS2020.

Hello Tim and a warm welcome to the forum.

The problems you are having may not be due to the new driver. Sometimes these problems do not affect other users.

I would not worry about the music cutting in and out during the sim loading. This has always happened to me when the computer is busy loading initialising software. If as you say its not causing an in-game crash, don’t worry about it.

Thank you for letting us know that there may be an issue with the driver. Please keep us updated. BRGDS. Charles

For those people who prefer the ‘weight watchers’ slimming version of the new 471.11 driver, (and it seems like quite a few of you) you can get the driver from the link below. I am going to use this slimmed version 471.11. It downloads faster and installs faster with the ‘bits’ I don’t need removed.

Charles

Everything removed out of the driver package except for:

  • Core Driver files
  • PhysX
  • HD Audio
  • Key RTX features (present only in Clean Driver RTX packages)

527.9MB

GTX 1070 here with new 471.11. Remarkable difference. Everything smoother & sharper with at least a 15-20% FPS improvement. Was using 457.30. Well done Nvidia!!!

Maybe a symtom of not doing a clean install during installation? I have had this before myself.

If you did a clean install then I would download the slim drivers (see TheAviator3506 post) and remove the old drivers manually clearing the shader cache, you can google this there should be some good examples on the web.

Mattius, that sounds great! I will have a go with the slimmed down driver, either tomorrow or Saturday. I have a new Win 10 update too installed which is supposed to be good. Charles

Was this with the ‘Weight-Watchers’ version or the Nvidia update? Also, clean install or straight update? Thx.

Same here. I haven’t been able to complete a flight since updating the driver (471.11) without a CTD. In fact, I can’t even make it to the runway!
I’m flying the FBW A32x, and it’s just CTD’ing randomly during the flight setup.
I’ve just reverted the previous driver, so I’m gonna try that.
