Great question. I haven’t noticed any specifically but I will check it out.
Many designers restrict the flight controls movements at high speed.
The Carenado 170 in FSX did this as well, but at the correct speed.
Seems totally unnecessary on a Cessna where anyone other than a 7 year old child can overcome the extra force needed even at Vne.
Seems to be a case of programmer/developers getting fancy for no reason other than they are bored.
Different on a WWII warbird where stick forces might be 40-50-60kg or more and flight crew needed to be physically fit.
How do you know? No sane person would apply full yoke deflection above Va (which in case of e.g. a 172 can be as low as 90kts) in any aircraft.
FYI, on e.g. the Bf109 the stick force can get so high that you can’t pull the stick back with both hands, regardless of physical fitness.
Without trimming you can’t even fly many airlines with one engine out for a prolonged period of time due to the very high force required (up to 150lbs) to constantly apply rudder.
The wrong pilot position in VR can be corrected with the following mod. in the C170‘s camera.cfg, camera 29. This is, according to my experience, the best setting:
InitialXyz= 0.03, 0.0, 1.35 //0.03, 0.1, 0.325
So, I was excited to see that I could download this in the Xbox version, but the engine dies when starting on the runway and you can’t get rid of the tablet (it even shows if you hide the yoke). Setting the tablet to “ready for takeoff” didn’t work because you can’t select the “Done” button on the tablet.
Guessing I might want to add a mouse to my Xbox while these initial glitches are worked out…
There’s an update available for this aircraft today to be downloaded from the content manager.
After a test flight I can say that the pegged cylinder head temp gauge seems to have been corrected (if anything it now seems somewhat difficult to get it up into the “green zone”, let alone “overheated”) and whatever electrical/alternator system glitch was causing the avionics to turn off after 15 minutes has also been fixed.
Edit: They also fixed a visual glitch I (and maybe others) pointed out that occurred when you opened the passenger side door on the yellow and white livery.
Bummer that we’ve traded a pegged CHT gauge for one that’s too low but I suppose that’s par for the course with Carenado.
Have you actually flown the plane yet or are you going entirely off of my post?
I said it seemed slightly low to me, that’s based on one 20 minute flight. I don’t know what range it sould be in during normal operation (beyond being sure it shouldn’t be maxed out). It does actually function now instead of being pegged at max which is a huge improvement.
The gauge looks good here…
New problem with the audio.
It sounds horrible. massive wind noise with distortion.
I found moving outside the cockpit with the END key and then back in solves the problem here.
EDIT:: The problem persists. Now nothing stops the exaggerated cockpit wind noise. But it does seem to correct itself after flying around for 5 - 10 minutes…
I did fill out a ticket with Carenado…
I try to use this on my xbox but the tablet is not disappearing and setting an aircraft state also does nothing. Plane is simply unusable on my xbox.
Anybody having more luck ?
P.S.:
I sent a support ticket to Submit a request – Carenado Support (zendesk.com)
will inform of outcome in this thread.
Same issue here on the Xbox. Hadn’t had time to file a ticket, so appreciate you doing so.
I have experienced the same problem, it was one of my VR base stations interfering with the TrackIR. Turning off the base when using TrackIR fixed the problem. Make sure you don’t have a light source or reflection in back of you Circe that would have the same affect as my infra-red base station.
Carenado replied to my ticket with acknowledgment of the problem and the information that they are working on it.
“Greetings,
This new version of the simulator makes certain parts of our planes not work as they should.
We are working on our aircraft to make them available as soon as possible.
Regards,
Carenado.”
I have gotten a refund from Microsoft and will therefore not be able to confirm when the Carenado 170 will be working on Xbox as I no longer own it.
Just so that you don’t wait for me to give feedback.
I might buy it again once I get confirmation elsewhere. But who klnows when that is.
As a reviewer for carenado I been in contact with carenado and they confirmed that they are working on fixing the tablet. Beside the state of the aircraft on the tablet it is working great on xbox, only problem is changing the state on tablet like click cold and dark but cant set it because the done button doesnt accept the click
When I start up a flight, the tablet and radio are on in the preflight cut scene, but when I click fly, neither are on and I can’t figure out how to turn them on. Am I missing something or is this a bug that needs sorting out? And I’m on PC btw.
Usually you click on the center of the yoke to turn them on, not the back of the shaft of yoke column which turns off the yoke, but the wheel itself.
“Hotspot” for the tablet is right on the “C170” logo on the yoke (which Carenado rather amusingly uses in place of the vintage Cessna logo that should be there because they are weirdly paranoid about trademarks even when no other add-on developer is).
I have never seen an issue where the radios weren’t on at the beginning of the flight, at least if you weren’t starting cold and dark on purpose.
I should’ve been more clear. I was meaning the tablet on the panel that is a GPS. I can’t figure out how to turn it on.
