New Release: dc-designs-pt17-stearman

This is an incredibly enjoyable plane to fly. Trims beautifully and easily, lots of fun for aerobatics, looks good, sounds good. Unbelievable value for the money. Thanks guys!

OK.. So it is your fault. Here’s me happily eating Shredded Wheat, casually reading this thread. Suddenly, you say you can’t keep your mouth shut about the P-61. “Fair do’s” says me, taking another big mouthful of cereal. Next post, all heck breaks loose as the humour of your instant reply hits me like a sledgehammer.

Alas, it is too late. Laughter erupts, and now I am fighting with the Shredded wheat more than I fight to keep aircraft on the centre line on takeoff in MSFS. Decisions! Do I swallow the cereal and risk choking while I am beetroot red with laughter, or do I open my mouth and risk spewing it all over the keyboard?

I turn to my trusty Jack Russell terrier for inspiration, support and empathy. He’s looking at me hopefully. Aha, a solution doth appear. I reach up and remove some of the aforementioned Shredded wheat from my gob, and feed it to him!

He’s happy, I am happy, and the keyboard is dry.

But
I may need more cereal to make up for the loss. And that is your fault!

LOL.

Seriously, brilliant touch of humour there mate. You were like a comedian with a fine-tuned sense of timing. All the best!

I’m particularly proud of this one.
If doing it with the Pitts was (relatively) easy, with the Stearman it was an upper level.
Needed a few more attempts and a real fine tuning of elevator, ailerons and pitch trim.
Thanks to my old bare Lady.

Just a brief update here that the Stearman update is ready, but the forthcoming Sim Hotfix may “require changes to aircraft effects” according to the recent Microsoft announcement. I think I had better hold the update back for a few days in case I need to change my smoke effect after the sim’s Hotfix.

Any smoke on soon please ? Merci !

I’m having trouble getting the smoke effect to show since SU6, but it’s being worked on. The rest of the aircraft is ready so it won’t be too long now hopefully.

It was smart of you to hold the release till WU6 and the hotfix were out

Hope it’s a long and long lasting smoke effect. It’s disappointing if it’s just a short lived look.

It would be nice to do loops and whatever else and see it stick around a bit afterwards.

The longer an effect’s lifetime, the more it will affect performance. The trail does last just long enough for a full loop though I think.

smoke effect of the GeeBee R3 - As with FSX I believe the duration of the effect along with all or most other parameters can be set in the aircraft config files etc

It is fun to do multiple loops or other maneuvers and pull the aircraft through your own smoke rings..

Yes! Precisely the Dream! I love being able to put that smoke out and then fly around and thru it!

How does that smoke smell please ? still cooking ? Thanks !!

Still having trouble with effects, they’re not easy to say the least but hoping to have them sorted soon! Rest of the airplane is all done.

Man, I want that simulation effect so badly!

Imagine coming up with a standard for how to generate smells and a “controller” you put under your desk generates the smell of the cockpit.

Good thing I don’t have a wife

sigh

That would be awesome

Don’t know if it could work, but why not trying a system based on an electronic cigarette with neutral liquid plus a drop (or more ?) of ricine oil ?

Then we just need an interface to control the amount of smell at particular times, and perhaps the ability to store multiple odors and release them at different times. So a standard would need to be created so you could assign intensity and odor and control from maybe the engine.cfg or something.

You can imagine at engine start time, particularly with a radial engine, it could be very intense, then back off as the engine warmed up. Then there’s the smell of the leather, and metal, probably a faint paint smell? I wonder what other smells would be in various cockpits? The beat up Just Flight Cherokees probably have some must

Like I said, probably most popular for single guys would be your market, haha
