New Release: Pilot's Boeing B314 "The Clipper" Flying Boat

Purchased and downloaded from the Pilots site. Extracted files, but the installer seems corrupted and fails, then the installer vanishes from the folder. Sent in a support request which has yet to be ansered. Also, the dowload is very slow. Not a good customer experience.

The installer vanishing is likely your anti-virus kicking in and seeing it as a false positive.

I would suggest you create a new folder, place the downloaded ZIP in there, then create an AV exclusion for that new folder, then unzip and install.

The download being slow could have numerous reasons, thanks for the feedback.

Thank you Jerome for the quick response. That was it. My AV was blocking the install. But I did have to do a reboot for the AV to actually acknowledge that it found something before removing the file in question. Now I can exlcude the folder. Loading now.

@pby5a, looking for some fun? I have a hard time believing that’s a color photograph from 1939, but, even if it’s just a painting, maybe a colorized photo?, @Editer is correct it looks a whole lot better than the screenshots above…

That photo seems to be a modern photo taken from the flying boat museum in Ireland…

Glad to hear that you’re enjoying the just released PILOT’S Boeing B-314.

The photo shown is from the mockup cockpit at the Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum in Ireland.

Stefan, the CEO of PILOT’S, has a great personal interest in the Clipper, and at his home has half a room filled with B-314 memorabilia, reference material, letters of his actual contact with former real world B-314 aviators etc.

Rest assured that the VC and colouring have been replicated with the utmost care and attention to authenticity and detail! You may not take a liking to the green colouring of the cockpit, however, this is an absolutely correct representation of the B-314’s cockpit environment.

So psyched for this…
I realize you’ve got a lot of work to do… Could you please add some Dock parking spots to the water runways however. I prefer to start Cold and Dark.

It would also be great if you could compile each of the airports you release as a separate bgl, so we can turn them off if we want instead of having to turn off all of them.

This cutaway image has a green flight deck. Also a dude in one of the engine bays. Wouldn’t want his job!

This looks a thoroughly interesting AC and totally different from the mainstream stuff we are used to getting.

The launch though sounds very low key. Can’t find out much about this on the website, can’t see any trailers or even any previews or reviews from any lucky You tubers.

Very much hope the product itself is much better than the marketing behind the product launch.

Not trying to be rude here. Just an honest personal observation. Maybe I’m not looking in the right places.

I will hold off until I find out more. Really hope it’s good though. Just my sort of thing.

Yeah, we complain when they say “Coming Soon!”, and then we complain when they don’t tell us until it’s released, lol!!

Given it was just released yesterday, and the only notification here seems to be a response to me in a totally different thread, lol, It’ll probably be a little bit before there’s video reviews.

Personally, since this is one of my favorite planes ever, and Pilot’s is on my “Good Ones” list, I picked it up. @Editer reviewed it a bit a few posts up. If I have anything worthwhile saying I’ll add a couple of cents after I’ve had some fun with it, but other people will probably review before me (I want to spend some time with the manual and setting it up and stuff, and apparently I’m going to redo Treasure Island airport and add a dock parking spot because I can’t help myself).

Yes, I will look forward to hearing your comments on it and any reviews in the meantime :slightly_smiling_face:

Hopefully, it will be pretty decent anyway and I will be able to join the rest of you in what looks like a pretty challenging and unusual AC :+1:t2:

Looks cool. Is the Gyropilot fully implemented (I believe should be similar to the one in the DC-3?) so at least there is a basic auto pilot. How much of the interior is modeled (i.e. various cabins/levels)?

There’s these two mods that add in a bunch of water runways around the world with parking spots. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done

This would be great! I’ve been there a few times and there is a small museum/display inside the original Pan Am Clipper terminal building which still exists and there are a lot of photos/paintings of the Clipper.

Post above convinced me, thank you Megadyptes7635. I didn’t need another plane but can’t resist this one…

Oh, I’m not planning on doing much more than adding a dock and parking spot and connect it to the water runways so AI can use it… Has Asobo implemented AI water takeoffs and landings?

I mean, if I can clean up the grounds a bit and make it a little more interesting I might, but, I have no idea how to build models for buildings, sadly. I wish I did.

The PG buildings are actually quite good so doesn’t need custom buildings. Just a proper water dock to the right, based on historic photos I was looking at of Clipper terminal and dock.

When you say it goes a bit strange, what do you mean? I’m having an issue where before I hit the yellow “Ready to Fly” button, the aircraft is sitting in the water, powered off and normal. As soon as I hit Ready to Fly, the aircraft seems to go into a powering down sequence where all the engines spool down, props are spinning, and the aircraft seems to drop 15 feet and wobble in place, now sitting above the water. Systems are all powered up and have to be manually shut down. Is this anything like what you’ve seen?

Edit- I also see that with the two prototypes and the standard 314, the MP on the cockpit panel reads 10” higher than the engineer station panel. The 314A is about 5” difference.

If you are hovering over the water, the invisible beaching trolley is in place. Just raise your undercarriage with a keystroke.

I ordered it, but you don’t even get to download it right away after paying. So much for my idea to try it out this morning.

") If you ordered a download product:

Once payment is completed (that is after YOU have transfered funds through PAYPAL/Bank Transfer or WE have booked your creditcard, which
we do MANUALLY once a day) you will receive another email with your SERIAL KEY. Once you have received your serial key, your download is
ready for you at our site."

Edit: about an hour later got my email with the serial number and am now installing it.

It took 15 mins for my download which is fine. Need to ensure both manuals and software files are downloaded. The documentation and historical info is great.
