Recently released is Boris Audio Works new sound set for the default Cessna 172 (also works with WB Cessna addon etc…). Now available from OrbxDirect!
Incredibly realistic sounds brings the Cessna to a very high level of experience. Also enhances my bass shakers to new levels as every sound/vibration is now felt with more depth and realism. Love it!! Only issue I’m experiencing is that in VR (G2) there seems to be a vibration (added) to only in the cockpit view. This is a shaking to probably mimic the engines vibration, but it cannot be adjusted, reduced or eliminated. This shaking makes it unbearable and induces nausea for me. I’m hoping Boris will look into this, as right now I cannot tolerate this effect. Has anyone else experienced this issue with this new addon?
I don’t have this addon yet, but if you use Discord I highly recommend checking in with Boris directly about your issue. He’s extremely friendly and open to suggestions. Boris Audio Works
Just one thought, are you sure it’s not being caused by FSRealistic? I know for sure that adds shaking effects.
Yes, I got help on Discord. It was suggested that I turn up the shaking setting in OXR to around 75. That helped the shaking in cockpit, but there’s still some vibrating especially looking outside when engine is rev’d up. Not using FSRealistic anymore for awhile now, for just those reasons.
Heads up!
There is presently a 50% off sale on the Boris Audio Works sound packs for both the C172 AND the Cirrus SR22.
Both are steals, IMHO.
They are available on-line at Simarket and Orbx.
I bought it. It’s almost mono, not very immersive, not a wide stereo sound. The recording technique didn’t capture the immersiveness in the cockpit well.
Sorry to hear you didn’t like it.
Sound is a pretty subjective topic even amongst golden-ear “audiophiles”. But to be honest I have never sat in either of these bird’s cockpits in real life so I can’t really speak objectively about it.
The more constructive feedback you can give Boris, the better he should be able to make his sound mods.
He is very friendly, and open to discussion about his new Mods, and always seems open and willing to work with the.plane’s developers.
Mastering the MSFS 3D sound system is no trivial an undertaking – give him time to hone his skills & experience.
That’s taking it too far. I like it. It’s only the aspect of the missing immersion (under headphones) that I would like to mention as a user feedback for possible future improvements. Being surrounded by sound with a good degree of signal decorrelation for the ambient sounds - e.g. engine hum or wind stream - between both stereo channels should be the goal.
A plane maker who got that right is for example Miliz/Blackbird with their C310R.
I’m wondering how Boris recorded the sounds, did he use a stereo mic setup with a good degree of ambient pickup and decorelation, or was it one (mono) mic. I can see in the goniometer it’s not a strict mono signal, but also not a stereo signal using it’s full width for ambient sounds, it’s “monoish”.
One other point I wondered: the flap extension/retraction is now really low level, barely audible with the engine running, compared to before or other GA planes. Is that so in a 172?
Good! Sorry I misunderstood your comment. Agree with “N6722C” that constructive feedback is really the strength of this forum.
Together with your comments I would like to add one of my own. I don’t think anything bothers me as much with the various sound packages out there as does the obvious presence of looping.
A couple of add-on aircraft that could use some definite help in that area, if Boris ever decided to look into them, are the YMF5 and the L19 Bird Dog. I love flying these 2 VFR birds, but usually with the sounds turned down very low because of the prominent looping.
And I stand by my original statement that getting my hands on Boris’s 2 really nice sound packages from SimWorks for the 172 and Sr22 for a total of $10 was a true bargain. No buyer’s remorse here!
Once again – its NOT easy …
There is a lot more to making a good sound set (or MOD) for MSFS, than just recording a plane’s engine sound.
Getting a good 3D spacial sound recording is difficult enough, but then comes the mastering the Sound Pak software WWise ( Blender for Audio !!)

Nobody said it should be easy. You sell your product (e.g. sound set) for good money, you are expected to be an expert.
To clarify: 3D recording is not a requirement. I commented on making the jump from 1D (mono) to 2D (stereo). For ambient sounds, that is sounds that come from all directions inside a plane (e.g. engine hum, wind noise in flight) you aim for a correlation factor of around ± 0. The recording needs to be with a stereo mic and you need to know how to set it up. Wondering how that was done here.
This sound set is also missing real life low frequency content. E.g. touchdown noise with high level in the low frequencies. Again, take Milviz C310R as a study case, it’s done very well there.
Have to agree that the C310R has a great sound set.
But to Boris or those who might have contact with him, I really do like the spinning wheel bearing sounds that accompany the ground roll. I have watched some on-line videos of real aircraft touch-downs and roll-out that reveal similar sounds.
Quite surprisingly, I haven’t detected this in any of the other aircraft in my “hangar”.
I have long suspected as much, as I mentioned the looping issue to the L19 developer a considerable time ago. He said basically that he’d look into it. It remains. I have actually tried, unsucessfully BTW, overlaying a better sounding (to me) package from one of MSFS’s generic GAs. But I think the encryption prevents this.
Bring it on, Boris, and any others like you!! I’ll buy it!
Perhaps Boris’s recent video might help answer some of your questions.

I wonder if anyone can comment on how Boris’s addon(s) compare to something like FSRealistic. The advantage of the latter is that it can be used for all planes vs having to buy one for each plane. FS Realistic has a trial version but I don’t believe Boris does.
Boris’ work is a total overhaul of the 172’s sounds. FSRealistic adds some small sounds for things like ground roll, engine start, etc, but not “big” sounds like the engine. I love FSRealistic but disable mostly everything with the C172, since Boris’ is much more comprehensive and totally custom to the aircraft. I leave FSRealistic sounds just for the things that Boris doesn’t have, like random noises, ground effects, wind, cabin ambience, and whatnot.
I started using FSRealistic again but turn down or off many of the effects. Boris’s sound set vibrates the view way too much in VR (even with OXR shake setting all the way up). So unfortunately I still cannot use it or I get nauseous.
Tried it yesterday overall not bad but it’s a very short loop for the engine when in flight and it’s quite obvious with headphones on and after an hour flight it got quite annoying. I hope this can be improved, not wanting to complain but would just like this improved and the loop made less obvious the give away for me was the slight side to panning of sounds that just goes round and round every loop.
Hi - is the “short loop” issue with FSRealistic or Boris’s sound set?
Boris I don’t use fs realistic.
