New Zealand Airports – Missing Jetways and Ground Services on PlayStation 5
Description of the issue
Several New Zealand airports in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PlayStation 5 are missing airport infrastructure and services that should be present, particularly passenger jetways and associated ground services.
At affected airports, the airport environment appears incomplete compared with the expected airport layout. Aircraft can be positioned at stands where a jetway should be available, but the jetway itself is missing or cannot be used.
Ground-service functionality is also affected, with some stands lacking the expected services or equipment needed for normal passenger operations.
This is particularly noticeable at airports used by Air New Zealand and other scheduled passenger operators, where jetways and ground handling are an important part of the normal turnaround experience.
The issue appears to be specific to the PS5 version of MSFS 2024, and is especially noticeable when comparing the same airports/locations with other simulator platforms or expected airport layouts.
Affected areas include:
-
Missing passenger jetways at gates that should have them
-
Missing or unavailable ground-service equipment
-
Incomplete gate/stand infrastructure
-
Reduced functionality when performing normal passenger turnarounds
-
Airport layouts that do not appear to match the expected real-world configuration
For example, at affected New Zealand airports, an aircraft may be parked at a terminal gate where a jetway should visually and functionally be present, but the stand instead appears as a basic parking position.
This significantly reduces the realism of operating scheduled passenger flights in New Zealand, particularly for users flying realistic Air New Zealand routes.
FREQUENCY OF ISSUE
How often does this occur for you?
Consistently at affected New Zealand airports.
This is not an occasional loading issue. When using the affected airports on PS5, the missing jetways/ground infrastructure can be reproduced repeatedly.
The issue can be observed during normal:
-
Gate arrivals
-
Passenger boarding
-
Passenger disembarkation
-
Aircraft turnarounds
-
Pushback preparation
-
Ground-service operations
REPRODUCTION STEPS
Steps to reproduce the issue
-
Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PlayStation 5.
-
Select an affected New Zealand airport.
-
Select a passenger aircraft such as the Airbus A320/A321.
-
Select a terminal gate/stand where a passenger jetway should be available.
-
Start the flight parked at the selected gate.
-
Inspect the gate and surrounding terminal area.
-
Observe that the expected jetway is missing or unavailable.
-
Attempt to use the normal airport ground services.
-
Observe that some expected ground-service equipment/services are also missing or unavailable.
-
Repeat the test using other affected New Zealand airports/gates to confirm that the issue is reproducible.
Expected behaviour
At passenger terminal gates where jetways and ground services are part of the airport’s normal configuration, MSFS 2024 should display the appropriate airport infrastructure and provide the associated ground-service functionality.
For example:
Expected:
Aircraft parks at terminal gate → jetway is present → jetway can be operated/used → appropriate ground services are available.
Actual behaviour
Actual on PS5:
Aircraft parks at terminal gate → jetway is missing and/or unavailable → some ground services are missing or unavailable.
The aircraft can therefore be left sitting beside an empty terminal stand despite being positioned at a gate that should support normal jetway operations.
Platform / Version
Platform: PlayStation 5
Simulator: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Region: New Zealand
Issue: Missing airport jetways and ground services
Aircraft affected: Passenger aircraft, particularly aircraft normally operating from jetway-equipped gates
Additional information
This issue is particularly noticeable for users who regularly fly New Zealand domestic routes, as many of these flights involve realistic terminal-gate operations.
